That isn't true, these motors will run for quite a long time if treated properly, - adding a little 2 cycle oil with fill ups, using premium fuel, monitoring boost and water temps, changing the oil more often than normal, etc.
thats really bad, fluids deteriorate and then when started after sitting those deteriorated fluids damage internals, etc etc.
unless the engine was drained of fluids before being stored away.
and since it's prolly never been beaten on, or even revved high, you know things are going to be brittle.
i dunno, its just how i feel about old low mileage cars, i try to keep my distance. not saying you're car wouldnt be a great buy, but buyers do need to be aware to not judge a book by its cover.
carpe diem or whatever.

In this case you're paying for the overall quality of the interior and original paint, plus low miles on chassis. I don't see why the engine would be so brittle now just because it hasn't been driven much.

on average you figure people do 1000-1500 miles a month. so technically that car only went for 1 out of every 12 months of it's life.

13,700 miles in 11 years (1993-2003) comes out to 1245.5 miles a year.
Next take those 1245.5 miles and devide them by 12 to get the total correct milage for each month, but, let me spare you the agony, the answer is 103.8 miles a month.
Now lets see how abusive this really is to an engine as everybody likes to think it is. Shall we?
From 93-03, we have two leap-years, one in 1996, and the other in 2000. On those months, the car could have run 3.6 miles a day. And the other years, it could have run 3.7 miles a day.
Hmm, 3.6 or 3.7 miles a day EVERY DAY doesn't sound destructive to me, in fact, if someone would want to preserve a car, they'd do exactly that.
Did the car run 3.6 or 3.7 miles a day during it's life span, WE DON'T KNOW. Did it run only one month out of the year, WE DON'T KNOW. Did it run weekly once for 25.2 or 25.9 miles, WE DON'T KNOW.
Do you get it Sherlock, if you're gonna bring this argument up about not trusting these cars, then have some numbers to back it up, because whatever you can figure in to suit your belief, I can figure in something totaly different to suit mine.
You just got:

Anyone ever watch the discovery wing channel? Had a rotary powered plane on there the other night that was like 80 something years old on the original engine. They actually took it up and flew it around.....course it did fail and the guy crashed...but it was still cool.

HUH!!! For being an RX-7 forum every time i read a post there is some one bashing one??? You think it would be the total different since we all own one and want to preserve our investment and not see these cars ran to the ground!!!!
