Description: 1988 mazda rx7 GTU w/ 121k miles. runs like a champ, pulls hard and doesnt show any mechanical signs of age.

the chassi is rust free and straight! no accidents (except a small 1-fender bender). it was taken care of its whole life.

this car has not had a rebuild, but it has a lot of life left in it. i dont know much about rotaries... i was actually going to learn on this car... but from what knowledgable rx7 people have told me is that the motor in this car is the most reliable rotary that mazda made, and also that it can last a good amount over 200,000 miles if taken care of properly. 1st owner was some middle aged guy who had it from the 87 showroom until about a year ago. i was told the oil was changed meticulously every 1500 miles and the car has been taken care of well. from looking it over and driving it, i can't find anything to argue against those claims.

the clutch was replaced around 40k miles ago. its not brand new but its not going anywhere. this clutch actaully bites pretty hard. the first time i drove it i thought it had an upgraded clutch because of how harsh it engaged.

YES, THIS CAR HAS A FACTORY LSD, AND YES ITS THE ORIGINAL ONE.

here are the bads:

-rattle can white paint job. 2nd owner did that. (i'm the 3rd)

-has a dent in the driver fender, will need a replacement.

-sun roof needs work. i think its an easy fix.

-i have the interior radio bezel, but it still needs to be installed.

i also just bought a brand new battery for it a couple weeks ago and put new "battery connector things" on, so theres no corrosion and the battery definately has a good amount of life in it.

this car has sony xplod speakers all around and a sony mp3/cd player head unit.

REASON FOR SALE: i have no money and im in school. please buy my car so i can eat and pay rent. <3

Miles: 121xxx

Price: $1800. blue book value in good condition is 3,300, fair is 2,800. the car is definately above fair condition. it runs and drives awesome... it feels really smooth, solid, and planted around curves. this car destroys the twisties.

the paintjob looks like ***..... but, I think I can do something with this ride.

I'll give you 1000, if it gets down to the wire.

1800 is already $1k lower than blue book value in its current condition. its already priced cheap. the chassi is 100% straight and has NO rust. it runs and drives as a great solid car.

i'm willing to talk a little, but paint and a fender definately dont justify this car going for $1000

Well... I tested you, and you stuck to your guns. I hoped I wouldn't have to do this, but you leave me no choice.

That abused child is *not* an 88 GTU.

All 88 GTU's had the TII aerodynamics, and blue interiors. Yours looks like a regular coupe, or an SE, from the mini-wing, and the side mirrors. Plus, you've got the maroon interior, and no TII seats.

For an 88 GTU, I would gladly pay 1800, even with the crappy spraycan paintjob, and fender damage. Either you are misinformed, or you're trying to pull one over. I can't believe nobody has called you out, on this, yet.

There is *no* way in hell that your car would Blue Book at 2800$, looking like that, and with as many miles as it has.

Regardless of being babied, that engine most likely won't last another 50K, before it has to be rebuilt.

Sorry... I never said I was nice. Just honest.

Another minor detail I forgot to mention... the rear window on the 88 GTU also had a little commerative sticker about the RX-7 winning the IMSA GTU class, for three straight years.

That was the reason why the 88 GTU came equipped the way it was. And, if the original owner bought it in late-87, that's also another piece of the puzzle... cuz, the 88 GTU didn't hit showroom floors, until mid-88.

Looks like an 87 sport to me.

No way its worth $1800, that is NOT a straight chassis with that body damage, and someone bondo'd over the strips in the fenders/doors... looks like ***.

That car is not in fair condition. The condition is not just the motor. That car is in poor condtion, as it has accident damage and a nasty paintjob.

Take it to the local ricer meets and slap a redsuns sticker on it, only way you'll get $1800. $800 is more like it.

you're still gonna stick to this?

I got you on everything. It's not a GTU. If it was a GTU, it would have the full aero package, TII seats, a blue interior, and the little IMSA sticker on the window. The GTU also had the TII LSD. In case you hadn't noticed, you might want to look at what my mini-profile says, on the side of this post. If you still can't find it.... it says 1988 RX-7 GTU..... it's Arctic Silver Metallic.

now that I look at it better, Tessai is right..... there's bondo all over that car. It needs more than some TLC.... it needs a freakin faith healer.

I'll give you 200$, without the X-Plod stuff. Straight up.

Just noticed... in the first two pics, it seems they painted over the side marker lights (front and rear)... wtf? Car is now illegal to drive, congrats!

Also painted over the rear hatch lock, but left mirrors black. What'd you do, tape newspaper over the windows, wheels, and exhaust and have at it?

I say sport because it has the rear part of the sport aero package, and the sport wing.
