1974 RX4 Engine Swap w/ Non-Rotary
#1
Hi there,
Not sure if in the right forum but help is greatly appreciated. I have an all original 1974 RX4 Wagon with a carburated B13 engine.
1) The engine idle is rough and engine dies if I don't step on the gas pedal;
2) Also, blows a lot of smoke when engine starts.
Am considering replacing the original engine with a more reliable carburated rotary or non-rotary carburated engine with not a lot of swap modifications. Any suggestions? Car would be for everday use.
Thanks,

yeah keep the rotary but if it idles rough make sure that it is kept up like air filter,oil changes, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires etc... just clean it up a little it should run much better then i have a 85 gsl-se with 200,000 miles and it runs great. now for the smoke when it starts that happens when these engines get old they burn oil no matter what so as long as after it warms up the smoke stops then it should be fine. but if your looking for an engine swap i would put like an 86-90 13b rotary becuase the parts are much easyer to find and the mount should not be to much different but good luck i hope you stay with the rotary
