Yep, im goin from a crap 305 and wanted somethin totally different. I figured since in the US i have to import a 20b, i will just start with a 13b. I needed something to offset my 1400 horse 454 big block 1986 grand prix, so i wanted a rotary. love the sound, love the engine response and the modular type engine. any suggestions on things to change for this swap?

my advice for what to swap would be the car, your car is very heavy for a motor with little torque.

put the car on a serious diet and shoot for a 600hp single turbo 13B to match what a LS1 with bolt ons would do.

Realize that a RX7 weighs around 2600-2900 lbs or so depending on the set up ( thats REAL world weight, not guesses )

oh yeah. the whole interior is getting stripped, anything not essential to the driving of the car is getting removed, glass is getting replaced with polycarbonate or lexan. doors are getting stripped down and just sheetmetaled on the inside. most of the weight of the car is the engine and front end, which since a 13b weighs a good 3 to 4 hundred pounds less than a complete v8 lessens a lot. any other suggestions on things to replace, besides the hood

Thumbs up for the will to rotor but the your platform is not meant for low tq. motor's. I would reccomend a nice 350 with all the bolt ons and you will run perrty fine none the less. I would love to see a rotor in a camaro but it is just not the right platform for the motor. would be nice to see a 3 rotor in there with a massive single but a 2 rotor just wont cut it man. THAT IN MY OPINION ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Half of those things came with 2.5l fourcylinder engines.

you ever drive in one that had one of those engines? complete dog.

a rotary is not 300-400 pounds LESS then a V8, a LS1 is about the same weight as dressed turbo rotary motor.

if you can get your car down to 2900 lbs or less then it might not be so bad, but building the engine to be reliable is going

to cost you quite a bit of money.

well your fogetting the modular nature of the rotary. i can make a 13B into a 3 rotor with a custom eccentric shaft, another housing, rotor, etc. Just a matter of getting the parts. As for weight and engine size, i wouldnt be going small block, and a rotary is a good 2 to 4 hundred less than a chevy 454. the block alone is around 200, depending on what you run, race or production. Also, just as an FYI, this isnt going to be raced much, i just want something different to throw in my friends faces when they have to fill up 5 miles down the street.

dont think ur gonna get much better gas mileage from a rotary lol

lol yeah im pretty sure a SP single 13B hauling a camaro around will be in the secondaires a lot... so im pretty sure you will be burning gallons on the mile. lol

I'm pretty sure that the early Camaro Z28s had the iron block LT1s, which weigh quite a bit more than the alloy block LS1.
