The term "Spun a bearing" is used by some to describe any bearing failure. Brinelled surface, blackened surface, shined serface, flaking edges and so-on.

A spun bearing, should be reserved for a catastrophic failure where the soft overlay has welded to the crank and the steel bearing shell has spun inside the rotor or stationary gear shearing off the alignment tab.

In any case where the shell has turned in such a way, the part should be discarded. It is painfull but cheaper than loosing the engine again. If you leave it lay around, eventually it will find its way into another engine.

In failures where the shell has not turned, and the IDs measure OK, it is OK to reuse the pieces.
