this was gonna be a whole different posting, but hector, my latin lover, called and here's his dealio

he's got a white 88 t2, rb turboback exhaust, fcon, other than that its stock, and in nice shape. about 3 years ago, i think when he bought the car, he bought a mazda reman for it, then that one blew, he got another under warranty about a year ago, and he called me today and that one popped too. total mileage with both engines is under 5,000 miles, mostly freeway driving.

i think i missed one, but all 3 of these engines blew apex seals, and since theres so little milage, and since the driving is light (he would have told me if he was driving it hard), there must be something way wrong.

any thoughts?

as a aside my t2 was setup similar to his and it ran fine, and i was beating on it

maybe a faulty wire that triggers an injector?

with the rb turboback the car willl be borderline lean, and unless everything is working great, fuel filter, injectors, it will blow. it doesnt take long to hurt an engine that is leaning out. on a stock turbo2 with an exhaust the leanest spot is between 3-5k.

get atlest 720 seondaries if you are not planning on doing any other modifications.

he does have an fcon in it, it should be ok. also it pretty much just goes back and forth on the freeway cause he's been afraid to drive it for like 2 years

A mis-matched mixture of front hubs and crank pulleys?

Did he actuall break tha apex seal, or did it just loose compression. If you dont inject enough oil to the apex seal, the friction heat will warp the seal ( I went through about 3 before I figured that one out) and it will loose compression. Another problem I ran across once was on and aftermarket turbo without an intercooler, and high boost. Super high combustion temps will cause the apex spring to loose its tension.

pics coming soon, but the new mazda reman despite having lots of new parts, was assembled so sloppy that it prolly would have died in a couple thousand miles....

old motor's not out of the car yet, so its sorta pending further investigation
