are you looking at the white in the passages or the funky area about mid way down in the water o-ring seal track? Theres a pic of one of my endplates..I think the white is fine to re-use...I dont see anything wrong with it...but....

As you start to tear engines apart you will find more and more engines looking like this. Engines with high mileage. When the coolant support on the plates break, there is no support behind the coolant seal and the engine compression, exhaust starts to creep into the coolant system and is time to tear it down.

Take a MIG welder and tack weld the spring pins. continue tack welding untill you get a nice ball weld on top of the pin. Use a pair of diagonal cutters and grab onto the ball shaped tack weld and pull it out. Works great! On't worry about damaging the aluminum housing, the welder won't bother it. It will only weld to the spring pin. Repeat on the other pin and the sleeve will fall out.
