I've seen this same intermittent misfire not only on these Jacobs 8.5mm race wires (that could be understandable though given what these wires are made for ) but also on the RE Amemiya wires and Magnecors, I think. It's compelling me to re-think the entire thing about aftermarket plug wires. I've already ditched the notion that you "get horsepower" by putting on these super ninja gee-whiz wires; that's a line of crap. Perhaps the OEM stuff is the best to use.

my FD buddy insists on using the oem yazaki wires on all of his fd's. they do seem to work/fit and last the best. one of his customers got yelled at for buying ngk wires....

Well, I just got my stock NGK wires from Rotary Performance.

I also ordered 2 NGK R672510-5 spark plugs. I will only use the 10.5's when I run race gas, for a little extra safety cushion. I will be running these in the leadings, correct? And the 9's in trailing? I thought it was the other way around, but I could be wrong...

My motor should hopefully be here by the weekend, and I plan on getting it back in the car and running this weekend, because it's getting COLD, and my garage is small

So to date:

Engine Rebuilt with the stronger version of the rear iron

Swapped out RA apex seal springs with OEM mazda

New pilot bearing (hopefully will rid the clutch noise)

New stock NGK spark plug wires

2 NGK R672510-5's (running only with race gas)

Plans:

Re-route CAS wires to not interfere with spark plug wires or Alt PWR line

Re-route Alternator power line to not interfere with spark plug wires or CAS

Re-route Spark plug wires and each trailing wire ran in different locations.

Overall clean up of loose wiring throughout engine bay and underneath UIM.

-=Thinking about installing my MSD 6AL on the leading coils, should I do this?=-

Cross fingers and pray this never happens again.

Anything else that would be considered extremely important?

Ok so bad news...

Motor wont be here until Monday morning

Guess it will be next weekend, now. Time to buy some Long Johns! Buuuurrrrrrr

Ok, back on point. Does anyone have any opinions on if I should hook up the MSD 6AL box to the leadings? Figured it wouldn't hurt, and right now, it's just sitting in my pile o' parts.

Also, 10.5's should be run on leadings or trailings with the 9's on Race Gas?

10.5 L 11 T

I'm curious to hear your reasoning on this. Perhaps us Americans are dumb because we've always used the colder plug in the L. In a case like this, 10.5's in the Leadings and BUR9EQ's in the Trailings.

Ok, its running again!

Put the motor back in Sunday morning, hooked everything up, Check, Check, and it fired up First Try!

Only problem is a water leak coming from the bottom of the water pump housing. I will get that buttoned up pretty quickly.

I'll try to get some pics of how I rerouted the wiring in the bay.

I wish I remembered where it was from, but I remember reading about why mazda used a colder plug in the trailing in the first place. It had to do with the trailing plug being shrouded and therefore not being able to shed heat as quickly. The trailing plugs had to be colder to keep them from overheating, and possibly causing pre-ignition.

The trailing plugs do run a bit hotter, so if there is a colder heat range available then it shoud go into the trailing holes.

The MSD 6AL and others require that inductive secondary wire be used. You must not use solid conductor wire. Radio frequency output will be high otherwise, and cross firing may result. Also it may damage the MSD unit. I have no idea what the carbon wire would do.

Inductive wire has a conductor wound around a non conductive core. It is usually Monel wire.
