Here is a simplified cross section of the seal:

The inner Black ring is the inconel spring

The outer two layers are non-work hardening nickle alloys

The whole assembly is then coated in Pure Silver

i didnt mean for it sounds as if i thought this was a half assed project. sorry if it sounded like i was.

i just wanted some examples of everyday use of this materials to better understand why this will work and why it hadnt been thought of before.

because from what youve described and how it is made there should literally be lil to no coolant o ring problems at all. at least it seems that way on paper. and thats a great thing.

the temp will definately not fluctuate as much in such a small period of time in a rotary as in a sub.

and im not sure how much the chamber/combustion/whatever its called pressure varies between an extreme performance piston engine and a rotary. even so, with my limited knowledged, if the pressures were equal, they are being exerted in different ways, thus equals amount of pressures would have less impact on on a rotary than a piston engine. i think...

It had been thought of before, Mazda actually had them develope a Gas-filled seal back in the early 70's. They (mazda)elected not to use it due to cost. We explored a Gas filled seal, but the company did not have an extruder die of the proper cross-section to work with the groove in the iron. Real cost prohibitive to develop the gas-filled seal

So we went with the design I was already familiar with.

Sounds great man. If everything works out in the R&D stage I'd definately go with a set
