Vaseline
No, I don't have a weird fetish...well okay maybe just one or two
I was looking thru my workshop manuals, and they all say to coat the coolant seals in petroleum jelly (but not engine oil) when installing.
I usually stick them in place with a light smear of high temp silicone (Toyota sealant), and was wondering if anyone's done the vaseline method.
I guess if Mazda say it, there must be a good reason, right?

Vaseline expands the seals? That can't be good especially given the price of those damn seals...
Think I'll stick with my normal method (never had any problems
)
Thanks for the help

I used hylomar:

but I did use the vaseline on the rotors to help hold things in place:

mmm, greasy. I was initially concerned about the vaseline not burning up cleanly but I did a test with a spoon full of vaseline on the stove and it all disappeared leaving me with a brown/blue spoon and no residue, good stuff.

I have used vaseline and hylomar, hylomar seems to hold them in better and says sticky. Vasline works ok, just if it sits to long they will expand and not fit!

Hylomar and vaseline for the metal seals- yup, exactly what I've always done too... apart from the spoon and vaseline bit. And I thought I was weird!
