double post from 2nd gen but I thought it was important.
Hello I've had the experience from hell with my new R(new engine, tranny just about everything) so i bought a new engine from dirty south rotary the guy was good about things on the phone and very helpful even gave me a free fcd but he's running from the law now the best I can tell becuase we have attempted conact with him his business his house his former employers and no one can find him...this is a problem becuase while I have this engine sitting here it's missing a part 2 little things known as exhuast sleeves or sometimes called baffles I believe no my shop put my engine together without them and now they are very agiasnt putting ones in becuse they are afriad to take the motor apart(they claim 30 years rotory experience) So I have some new sleeves coming from atkins and really they just need to get roll pins that will fit and hammer them In I guess my real question is how vital are these things or if any one has had experience raplacing them I have been sitting on this dead & since march, I'm begging to lose faith in the anyone is the damn auto business I havent talked to one honest person about this car since before I bought it. So if you have any info on this problem please post. Thank you Kevin |
Are the Baffles in the sleeve missing or is the Whole sleeve missing. If its just the baffle, the only detrimental effect will be an incresed noise level. I have run TII housings (no baffle from the factory) on my NA and it was fine.

run on sentence is very hard to follow...

So are you telling me that I do not even need to have them? It's a new block with an extened port an S5 turbo II. I'm not sure about what that post is trying to tell me I under stand how they are taken out but I guess I was unclear in my previous stament are they nessisary?
thanks in advance |
You definatly do not NEED them, in fact some people prefer not to put them in at all!
I took them out on the rebuild I just did, sure it's pretty loud, but so far I really like the power it seems to be making. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Moreover, you HAVE to pull the engine appart and rebuild it again if you want to put them in. No way around that really. |
So your telling me I'll be fine without sleeves this is not a question of baffles I misspoke as the turbo II doesn't hae baffles. So what your saying is I can run this engine with out the sleaves and have little detrimental effect on the engine itself? IF so I will have them just install it.

There are a few people running with out the sleeve. RiceRacing is one. Whom ever built your motor did this for a reason, ask them why. You trusted them to build your motor so trust their porting work. Putting them back in may restrict the exhaust porting your builder did. Just my 2 yen.
