Quick story behind the car - my buddy bought a 2004 Gunmetal RX8 fresh off the New Jersey shipment (first load). The mazdaspeed kit was ordered and arrived before the car even did! He built it for show, full out - including a first (if not the first) GReddy turbo kit for the rx8. It was an HCI cover car, HIN show winner, blah blah - then he sold it to begin another project. My other friend bought it and dumped the Emanage ECU and hooked up an interceptor X. The car ran good, but always had hot start issues after the abuse the emanage caused. I then picked the car up where I tuned it and secured a few loose ends (re-relocated battery, redid TID, tune up, sparco seat brackets, etc)... now the car is back with my friend who had it before, but after running a compression test, found the engine to be lacking... he wants to track the car (it did manage to make it through one drift event w/ another friend driving) but before it can undergo the strain of track demands - the engine needs to be "fresh"..



So late tonight, the Renesis w/ all its GReddy glory was dropped off. It looks clean for being daily driven for 40K miles!



After the first few minutes, I already notice my one big problem - the Pineapple Racing engine stand adapter I have doesnt look like it's going to work. I'll have to check once I start getting the engine down to shortblock form, but it doesnt appear to have a good secure way to mount the engine to my stand.



It was a long day (I also picked up my 12A bp engine core, extra tranny, etc) so I am not going to start on the rebuild of the renesis until tomorrow at least! I have never rebuilt a renesis, but feel that I've gone through enough 12As and 13Bs to be able to figure it out.



I did a search on both forums and didn't find much... I plan to document everything I can in this thread so that it will help anybody else planning on rebuilding the renesis. If you've rebuilt one and have any tips - feel free to let me know!



Here are the first pics - just sitting on a spare tire for now until i figure out how to mount it on my stand!

I should note - the engine stand adapter from Pineapple works fine on my 12A and 13B - I didnt want that to come across wrong - it just looks like the renesis doesnt have the same studs for the accessories bracket that the engine stand uses to mount up to...

Not yet - and all the pics/video I've seen of others doing it show the engine on a bench or a tire like mine, lol.



I'm thinking it might work on one of the engine mount studs and I can drill another hole in my stand (not that I want to) to make room for another bolt.. It wouldn't be ideal, but I hate building engines on the ground and I don't have a big enough bench right now (too cluttered).

I thought about that - but in all honestly, we dont plan on going past 8.5psi/9 at the most, which is what it was run up to before I started the rebuild. The tune is good...no detonation (maybe once, but I fixed that)... the goal here is to repair damages that were probably caused prior to using the microtech. The Emanage that GReddy used in the kit SUCKED NUTS... I plan it for the low compression on the engine.



Can you put the FD rotors in w/ swapping the counterweight? What would that entail - just for curiosity sake..

That c/r costs those engines in turbo form a ton of power. Rotors aren't a direct swap w/o maching as far as I know, haven't personally done however. Might try in the future...

from what i was told you can not change the rotors, the rx8 rotors have diffrent side seal placement (further out on the rotor) and they are not interchangeable.

You can swap rotors either way, rx7 rotors in an 8 engine, and 8 rotors in a 7 engine. Just takes some work...
