My friend tom (tom93r1) was telling me about how a friend of his made his own gasket like this out of a material that didnt transfer heat, believe it was some sort of PC Board or something like that. And it made a difference, ill ask him about it again to get some more details.

I'm considering picking up a set and a spare uim,lim and tb to portmatch and smooth the path up a bit and then use these.



But as far as I can figure, if you have already ceramic coated your manifolds, these would be useless if you coated the entire manifold, if the gasket mating surfaces were still bare aluminum then yes it would make a difference.

And also, I'm not sure what sort of temperature difference this would create. I'm positive that it wouldnt be a huge gain, but it may make a small difference, stop some of the heatsoaking of the intake manifolds.

On a turbo however, it shouldnt be as much of a difference as on a non-turbo. The turbo just engulfs the manifolds with heat so it makes these gaskets sorta useless since the turbo just radiates so much to the LIM, and then the UIM gets some heat from the block, so i guess the LIM/UIM gasket would help some, the block to LIM would help a tiny bit but the turbo just feeds it all back.

I've basically come to my own hypothesis that these are nothing compared to the gains of ceramic coating the manifolds

Are you talking about phenolic gaskets? I've heard of those before. Supposedly you can be driving on the freeway, pull over and pop the hood and put your hand right on the intake manifold on some cars with these.

well... if you need new gaskets, it cost a little more than 30 bucks for both gaskets on mazdatrix.com so whats an extra 20 bucks, and supposedly you can keep reusing it.

try it, you'll find on an na car the intake is barely warm to the touch anyways. ive never tried it on a turbo car, but i dont expect it to be different

I purchased a set of these on eBay a week and a half ago per this very post. I've installed them and am about to go and see how they work. Looks like my two old gaskets I had had leaks in them.

thats awesome, glad i can help someone, well kinda. sortve unproven.

Are they much thicker than stock gaskets?

I doubt you'll have any before/after info, but give us any feedback.
