I long ago learned to just give the engine what it wants, we'll both end up happier that way. Usually.

The problem is like you say, the exhaust system. The engine wants an uninterrupted path to freedom, and the driver and everybody within a half mile or so want the engine to maybe try shutting up. So a compromise is reached. Definition of compromise: A solution for two differing parties that leaves both equally unhappy.

I've been reading some interesting things about those on a piston engine based forum. Instrumented dyno tests, measuring power, noise, and measured backpressure.

They look promising, but they're awfully expensive considering that they might last only a few minutes-hours before they suffer rotary induced total existence failure.

my new theory. the rotary engine is always the same volume, in DB. its the porting that makes it move or not.

we were at the track this weekend, and EVERY rotary is loud, its just the stock port ones are slower.

yeah i've noticed the hushpower, but i want data before i blow it up.

i may actually have a "street" setup and a "track" setup. i'm thinking the street setup might get an RB power pulse...

That's something I've kinda noticed too. Until you put nitrous on it, a given exhaust system will be just as loud on a stock port as a bridge port as a peripheral port.

The difference is, the bridge and peripheral ports idle and cruise at a much lower vacuum, meaning they're under more load, so they idle and cruise louder. And they aren't tolerant of a quiet exhaust like a stock port is.

Put nitrous on it, and it almost doesn't matter what you have for an exhaust system, it will be painfully loud.

I have been using the same Hush power muffler on three different cars now. No problems at all. Made the car quieter, deeper, and made more power. I will never use another muffler again. Hushpower is all I will use. Until I find something better in the future. Which will be tough to do.

Which model/part number?

I've had very good luck with Dynomax mufflers, but there isn't enough room under the car for enough of them.

Maybe it helps that I'm already losing my hearing, but I love a good raucous exhaust lol. I like the 3" dia. IMCO 6" long chambered muffler. No packing, just vaines to give it resonance and rumble. I've set off car alarms a block away with my old fb with headers and straight pipe to the muffler lol

I'm also losing my hearing and I'd rather like to keep it for as long as I can.

With Dynomax mufflers, I can barely hear the engine over the transmission and diff when at anything less than full throttle. They haven't figured out how to make mufflers for gears yet.

i have a fetish for big cans, but i wish they made the 9"x20" can with 3 or 3.5" and a turndown....

i think part of the problem with mufflers is that bigger is better, and the FB can take a 9"x20" muffler, but nobody makes one, the MFR muffler is 8"x20"
