Is there a chart out there for the different side seal lengths based on the notations on the rotors?

Just curious. It could make building engines faster, if you knew beforehand which ones were the longest ones.

Use one side seal as your standard.

Measure all positions writing grease pencil notes on the rotor.

Start trimming longest first so any mistakes can move down to the next shorter dimension.

the number stamps 2,4,6 and 1,3,5 are so you can put the seals in the seal case and put em back correctly.

Yes I know that... but on the other side of the oil seal, there's a glyph.

Looks like I get to be the one to make the chart. I'll probably write them sideways or upside-down or something and be the laughingstock of everyone in Japan, though...

Once again, I went about things ***-backwards.

One could make or find a chart and keep referring to it.

Or, one could just measure the actual slot length on the rotor and write it on the side with a Sharpie.

The rotors I sampled had straight-line lengths anywhere from 6.275" to 6.283". Lengths did seem to correspond to the marks, but not always. Some different-marked slots had the same length, but I never got different lengths for the same mark.

The impetus for this, incidentally, was recent acquisition of a big pile of engine parts that were not kept in order. Somehow there were more side seals than there were slots, too.
