S5 Rotor Housings In An S4 Engine
#1
Greetings,
I'm rebuilding an S4 engine(non-turbo), and have the option to put S5 rotor housings in it.
I've been told that the S5 rotor housings, because of the repositioning of the leading spark plug, could increase performance. Is that so, or should I just stick with S4 housings?
Thanks everyone.

I've been told by a company specializing in the repair and porting of rotary engine housings, and by Rob Golden at Pineapple racing that the spark plug position is different between the two. Rob said I wouldn't feel much of a difference.
If anyone has put S5 housings in an S4 engine, please let me know if there is anything better/worse about them.

That's right. The physical placement of the trailing plug is higher (longer split) on the S5 vs. the older S4 housings.
There's nothing better or worse about them per se, but the S5 housings have a better chance of lasting longer as they are newer.
