Ok, I think I may have asked this before but reading iceblues engine thread and also reading Maxt's post I've had a few questions about the S4 vs S5 housings.

First I'll tell you about my experience with this. I bought an 87 S4 RHD FC about a year ago from Japan and started doing the simple modifications to it, full 3" exhaust, cone air filter, electric cooling fan ect ect.

The car already came with a FCD so I figured why not try turning up the boost.

Instead of me buying a $75 boost controller, I just pulled the wastegate line off and capped it.

I figured if it blew up, no big deal...I'll just build one once it does. The car had 150,000 kms on it at this time so I was expecting it to last like 2 days tops.

Well let me tell you....it was a pretty fun summer of beating the living **** out of it at 18psi!!!

The car was my daily driver for 3 months and I put nearly 20,000 kms on it without a wastegate line attached and it took it beautifully.

I've seen a few people try pulling the wastegate on thier T2's with the same mods I did and they blew up within hours. I had a stock fuel pump and stock fuel injectors.

Burnouts, high speed runs, track days, drifting, I managed to smash a diff mount and I went through nearly 4 sets of rear tires with it and it ran like a top!

But all good things come to an end and in September it finally gave up at 7500rpm in 4th gear on the Hwy one day.

So I took the motor out and began to tear down the mangled block. Once it was apart I noticed the rotor housings were S5. I compared them to other S4 housings I had and they were different.

Now heres my question, Could the S5 spark plug location coupled with the S4 electronics actually made the motor last as long as it did?

Obviously the S4 electronics would be thinking the leading spark plug location would be where the S4 plugs are, but since I had the S5 location is more retarded would it prevent the chance of knock or detonation and make my motor last as long as it did.

I thought Id ask and get more discussion going about this sort of thing.

Joe

I did beat the **** out of mine with the stock crap, and a Rtek, 12psi all day long, and made awesome power, you could be onto something Joe!

I like the above mentioned idea. I have a set of 8:5:1 rotors setting in the garage for the exact same reasoning. Now just have to find another FD.

i'm gonna make a 6.5:1 hyper-extend street port... naturally aspirated, with steel kazoos and duck calls for an exhaust system.

I've heard of this horsepower concept, and i don't want anything to do with it.
