All the traditional galvanized metals we have at work, and those I have found in my experience with the S4 motors have that 'green-ish' colour to the galvanization.

Slight changes in the type of steel or the zink quality can change the colour of it. It probably is galvanized afterall but made of a different steel composite or something, giving the galvanization a dull grey.

I was thinking something similar, but that does not explain the rust on the end of it in the MREC photo. Yaw's pictures are of a new block I believe.

And here we have it, the S4 NA nipple:

plated! So we've got S5 and S4 NA's documented as being plated, RELIABLY (these pictures are taken by me, you can see these engines in person if you visit).

GMON, any pictures of those 50+ engines that don't have plated nipples?

I have more housings in the garage I'd have to dig out to get pictures of.

Yep, my S4 was plated when I rebuilt it this past summer.

That's a perfect example of the galvanization wearing off near the top where it isn't sealed so well by the hose, and the bottom where the hose has sealed it perfect, so the galvanization is intact.

The heater hose has gold cadmium plating while the nipple is just a galvinized tin tube(that pic)which is standard for most manufactures. I have never seen gold cadmium plating on a any bac nipple. Thats what I was refering to. Like I said. A little rust on that is no reason to think that there is any quality control issues in the manufacturing process. And we still dont have any worthwhile info on that end plate to make any real conclusions. But since you guys seem to think there is some big problem here I will leave the discussion to you. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif
