I posted about this before, but a new question has arisen now.



This weekend I'm going to take off the main drive pulley I have now (it has no timing marks...I used the mirror + spark plug removal to make some) and replace it with my new RB dual sheave pulley.



In order for this to work I will need 1) new water pump pulley (unless I'm just ignorant) and 2) a new alternator pulley.



Now, RB makes an alternator pulley to match the main drive pulley. The type of belt is different, it requires a v-groove belt whereas the stockers are just standard cog belt type-deals.



The question is, WTF do I do about the water pump? RB doesn't make one of these to match the alternator/main pulleys. I could be wrong but it doesn't seem like a v-groove belt is going to turn the water pump pulley...

I thought the 13BR water pumps were the same as the TII ones. TII ones use V groove pullies... Perhaps J9fd3 would know.

you can probably get away with running a TII water pump pulley though



im going to be using the cosmo ribbed belts on my car, whats the reason your taking off the ribbed belts? no timing marks on the cosmo pulley?

No timing marks, correct.

 

just on yours or all of them?



I wonder if you can lay the 2 side by side and put the marks on there

Well I kinda wanted to get new pullies anyway, to be honest, and I already have the RB pulley...

 

most people find the ribbed pulleys more desireable

 

V belts use more power and are less tolerant of high rpm. I prefer serpentine any day.



But since it seems you want to use your RB pulley regardless, an FC water pump pulley should work. Word of advice though. Running both the RB main and ALT pulleys WILL give you charging problems.

Yeah I was just talking to mazdaspeed7 about this. What the hell, I always like to do things the hard way anyway...
