I ported a 93FD engine to the Cosmos engine specs. Basically I made the FD ports just as large as the J-spec cosmos ports. Side by side you can't tell them apart. This way if your using the cosmos lower intake manifold it will match the FD engines ports. I personally like the FD plates, they are reinforced better then the Cosmos plates. If People want to install a cosmo engine in their FD but dont want the motor mount problem with the original cosmo plates, they could use this other way(FD engine ported to cosmo specs.) I'll take pics soon. Vosko was at the shop but was so excited about his linelock system and trying it outside the shop that he forgot to take pics of the FD ported plates.

Judge, what about port matching the FD lower housing to the new port?

vosko 06-14-2003 09:45 AM

yeah i really did totally forget. if its there the next time i come. i'll take pictures

What I was asking is if you can port the FD's lower manifold to match the new cosmo ports, I don't know why I had housing on the brain.

OK know I understand. You can't port the FD lower intake manifold to match the cosmos front and rear plates. If you try to port match the FD lower manifold, you will find yourself running out of porting space and porting right into the lower manifold bolt. Cosmos ports are decently large.

I'm new here, so Hi everyone...now to my question https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

What R the benefits to doing a Cosmo port job? Also how close are the specs of the FD motor compared to the Cosmo anyway?

What about the manifold for your port job, r u gonna do a custom manifold, just stick with the stock FD or use a cosmo one?

BTW anyone have any detailed info they can give me on the REW and RE motor would be great (i.e. a site or faq or something). I've been interested in the RE motor but havnen't had much luck uncovering info.

Thanx Dustin https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

Here is the difference in the FD (small) center plate port and the Cosmo (big) port:)

As they use to say during NFL football, "YOU MAKE THE CALL"https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

As far as the differences, I lost my link to the page the said them:(

So your telling me that I can use cosmo engine parts on my FD motor.

Cosmo Donk 06-23-2003 02:42 PM

Well, I can't tell you because I am doing the opposite:) I suppose if an FD center plate will fit in my Cosmo, a Cosmo center plate will fit in an FD:) There are some differences though.

1. The oil neck is angled different. I heard you just hammer on them and pull them out so you can adjust them. http://www.rx7turbo.com/projectcosmo/topcompare.jpg

2. There is no "crankcase" vent tube on the FD center plate so you would have to put a catch can on the Cosmo tube. (see above link)

3. There are no holes tapped in the FD center plate for the mount I think? It should matter in your case but mine it is an issue because I use those for my mount.

Check out my page with the pics: http://www.rx7turbo.com/projectcosmo.htm

wow, big difference...

Jeff20B 06-24-2003 04:12 AM

That's a very cool looking port you've got there. Talk about a 6 port! Too much boost?

vosko 06-24-2003 09:28 AM

i was shown brand new cosmo and FD housings. side by side.... yeah its way bigger stock https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Talk about an iceberg in your engine:) That is what can happen if you let your car sit for a year WITH coolant in it but the coolant decides to separate https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

vosko 06-24-2003 09:53 AM

yeah that picture is insane. what's going on with the car now ?

It is collecting dust in my garage with the guts of the engine on the shelf. I sourced a used FD center plate that I will fit in place of the deceased Cosmo plate. Now I just need to scrape up the funds to buy a full rebuild kit and possibly machine the rotors for 3mm only because I think the seal whacked the groove. It will most definitely be running by next summer.

vosko 06-24-2003 03:42 PM

wow that SUCKS........ hoped it would be running sooner!
