I have a RX4 - 5 style 13b that blows smoke, after pulling the engine down found oil residue one of the rear rotor face and also in the exhaust port.

I also noticed a slight groove in the front end plate which has a figure 8 shape around the centre hole that the eccentric shaft runs through - it’s not that bad but it is noticeable.

Everything else is in good condition.

The oil control rings are in great condition and the orings don’t look to bad, could this still be the problem and has anyone come across other problems that create smoke at idle?

I am a newbie any advise would be greatly appreciated!!

No help yet?

The scratch in the front iron would seem to indicate the oil loss is coming from that. You need to grind or lap the front iron (at least). I would look very closely at the oil scraper that was running against that iron. If there are no notches missing in either scraper I would swap them with the same pair from the rear rotor, just to be sure. Run over the iron with a DA (air powered random orbital sander) with 100 grit paper and see if the groove goes away. If not you didn't loose anything. It may work fine and put you back in business.

Fill out your profile.

i think my comp froze. ive seen a couple smokey motors due to nicks in the side housings, and or bad rotor oil seal o rings. i had one go, it was so bad i couldnt see the house (8 years later, the exhaust manifold was STILL full of oil), and i tore it down and everything looked really nice
