well, i just put a rebuild turbo II engine in my car and it just completed the first 500 miles on it but every 2 days i had to fill it with oil wich is odd to me because i have no oil leaks because i took care of that when i had the engine out and it doesnt smoke not even in the mornings. and in those 500 miles i almost put a gallon of oil already. is this normal of break in or what? because it seems really odd. thanks

george

btw, it have new control rings and pump and almost everything new

if the engine is not smokign out the exhaust and u have to refil oil and there are no leaks that means that your bearings are eatign up the oil.

Couple of things come to mind.. Did you replace the Oil o rings? Oil Rings (metal) and this may sound silly but did you get the oil ring springs in correctly? If the cats are working as advertised then they will clean up the smoke after a few minutes (then the exhaust is hot)

i wasnt the one that rebuild the engine, all i know that everything ex the bearing that are in specs was replaced is not the turbo because it have new oil seals and i dont have cats, like i said no smoke no leaks, i dont know is weird i have my omp a little more open that what factory said but i dont think that will cause to drink that much of oil

i did that with my metering pump, it will use a ton of oil that way

if u played with your omp it could use a lot of oil like j9 said, when u drive u prolly dont just notice the extra trail of smoke u leave behind u. as for the bearings before the bearing will go it will heat up dramatically from all the extra friction and that will first use up all the oil, before the bearing actauly gives, atlest in the case of oil dissapearing. this is not very likely but it could happen.

It possibly is the OMP adjustment or your oil seal springs were put in incorrectly. Try adjusting the OMP and see what effect that has on oil consumption. If that is not the problem then you will have to pull the engine to check oil seal O-Ring spring placement. I doubt the oil seal springsi are your problem; though as I have seen it done before and the car in question visibly smoked.........you say your car does not smoke, so pulling the engine is the very last thing you want to do.

That's funny, when my bearings went bad I didn't lost ANY oil. I didn't get past 500 km either before the engine blew.
