Where are the slide throttles from? Where'd you get them? Details! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

You mentioned in the other thread that the slides were ineficient, have you tested them both?

You know how banzai is, whatever is already assembled is automatically more efficient... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I really like those, I'm curious where they came from

In theory it's easy to make your own, but the devil is always in the details..

The problem I forsee with making your own is quick throttle response. Normal blade throttles will open and close almost instantly without a heavy return spring because there is almost no friction. With the slide throttle stuff I posted, its from an aviation source (www.rotaryeng.net), where throttle response isnt an issue.

And banzai, those things are sexy. But I didnt see you mention what they were originally off... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

banzaitoyota 10-04-2005 08:30 PM

BELIEVE ME!!! Throttle response will not be a problem!!!! These things are smooth. The reason I busted on adam is the drawing doesnt show the bearings!

These came from a person who was connected to the Mazda Racing Program in the 80's. MAZDA MOTORSPORTS (Brian/Scott) have heard of their existance, but know none of the details. I am searching for more info

banzaitoyota 10-04-2005 09:05 PM

Thanks Adam!

Banzai is old enough to be a piece of history.

j9fd3s 10-05-2005 09:49 AM

lots of needle bearings in there, zr03-13-r21!

the whole assembly part number was zr03-13-r10

Bearings make it much less scary.

Scoot 4 rotor

ColinRX7 10-05-2005 06:01 PM

Why not post the info, Mike?

I stickied this for a reason.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

j9fd3s 10-06-2005 12:37 AM

i'm happy to post it, but its in a book with glossy papre, so it might be tricky

Maxt 10-15-2005 05:55 PM

Very Nice pieces....

I cant tell from the pics, but is the top air horn side of the throttleplate tapered?...The only one I have seen was tapered on the top side...

But yeah that is bit of rotary history, I have alot of pics of that setup on a 13b with bosch mech injection...

Great find, score of a lifetime...Maxt

Does anyone have a explode view or technical drawing of the inner workings ?

Thanks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png how about sharing, banzaitoyota ?

bcrx7 11-01-2005 05:32 PM

Yeah, how about sharing those? I need to make a couple for two 13G (short 20b) cars.

banzaitoyota 11-01-2005 08:18 PM

It will be awhile, I have too many other projects right now that HAVE to get accomplished.

inanimate_object 11-03-2005 04:37 AM

What's the advantage of slides over butterflies?

there is no obstruction for the air flow

inanimate_object 11-03-2005 09:09 AM

Hey that's right!

Mark

SomeGuy_sg 11-15-2005 09:22 PM

That's only true at full throttle. At any other throttle level they are a disadvantage compared to butterfly systems. When you consider that a race car is at full throttle most of the time, it makes alot of sense to use them.

toplessFC3Sman 11-16-2005 02:31 AM

couldnt u just make the butterfly throttle bodies a little bigger to compensate for the obstruction, or is that running into problems in terms of technical rules for the race series?

j9fd3s 11-20-2005 10:17 PM

merry xmas

j9fd3s 11-21-2005 02:32 PM

sure, its a mazda parts book though, buch of neat parts you cant buy.

you dont, its an old mazdaspeed catalog from 97? ive got a 2000 one too, but it doesnt have anything cool in it

bcrx7 11-25-2005 12:18 PM

Well I checked some of the parts prices on my account and damn they are expensive. The full thing is like $6600 US.

SomeGuy_sg 11-27-2005 11:22 AM

****... $ 6600 that is some clunk of change. Anyone do some reverse engineering to get some out for the rotary ?

Reverse Engineering isnt cheap either. As it has been said before: Show me the $$$$$, the majority of people when asked to pony up the $$$$ before/after a product is developed magically disapear!
