the sideseal is not exposed in that port. i still round off all the ports a tad for all the other seals that ride on them. any more earlier open intake port and you would need to bevel the top edge of the port.

Out of curiosity and if you don't mind telling. How far down from stock do you open the exhaust port? In mm's if you don't mind revealing. I usually take it down 10mm from stock. I like the early opening on turbo motors everyone has their opinions.

I had all my housings cermet coated by JHB. The cermet coating does repair scoring and such as long as the chrome isn't completely taken down to the steel liner. There were a couple spots where that happend on mine. Once the steel is exposed it develops rust which interferes whit the cermet bond...ect.

The spost are right on the outermost edge and are so small it's not really a concern for me.



A word of caution... When i sent my housings out, I had the ports almost finished. I had all but polished them. It turned out to be a good thing because they came back with the cermet sprayed right into the ports, making them somewhat rough again(but much less than casting rough).It was a major pain grinding and sanding the cermet off.

Since you're only having your rotor housings done it won't be to bad, but I recommend you save yourself some extra work and remove those nicely polished exhaust sleves.

 

Yea ive only got some chrome flaking off and some apex chatter, nothing to serious, kahren said they looked pretty new, other then for the damage, so i figure last time it was rebuilt (60k miles ago) they used new ones or something.



Thanks for the warning about the cermet being sprayed into your ports, good idea to remove the sleeves i guess.... ive been talking to them for a while and im pretty good friends with the guy so I'll make sure to push the fact that id like the ports to be free of that ****.

Can someone explain the reasoning for such early exhaust port opening? I was under the assumption that earlier opening shortens the power stroke or does this apply to n/a only?
