Unhappy

Here are a few pictures of my street port. My plan was to make one port like i want and make a template from that. The major question i had is i may have opened the port into the path of the oil control ring but i cant tell for sure. Other than that i was just curious as to what everyone thinks about it. It's a little smooth right now but i plan on going pack and roughing it up a bit later.

Thanks.

The best thing to dress a cast iron port is a rough stone, just make sure you get a truing stone to smooth it out before you hit the port with it otherwise the surface will come out like a$$.

To make even an educated guess, we need the opening and closing points in degrees.

Does the trailing end of the side seal get supported all along the port, or does it drop into the port?

If the seal is not supported, the end will be pinched by the radius at the upper outside corner. So, is it supported?

Ink up the whole port surface with majic marker. Replace the stationary gear. 2 bolts is enough. Slip in the crank.

Place a scribe into the trailing end of the side seal groove and turn the rotor apex across the port so as to lay down the actual path of the seal end.

Now you know if the seal end will droop into the port or not. If it does, the closing line needs to be straighter with a smaller radius in the outside corner. So the seal end comes back onto the iron from the inside to the outside. This while never touching the out side of the port first. Otherwise the corner of the seal will wear away and become rounded and start to leak. Put a bit of a radius along the closing line, to reduce seal wear.

A minor intrusion into the path of the outer scraper is not a disaster. This may result in a bit of oil smoke at idle but nothing to die over. In all out racers, there is some times a very large amount of the scraper is defeated. I don't do it as I sold my dyno and have no way to investigate how much power is available by doing it. I can report, that when done on all 4 irons idle smoking is substantial. It is not a streetable engine. At speed there is some smoking, but there is enough air mixing with it as to be less noticable.

Buy the bigest degree wheel you can find. Build a TDC rig. Record your opening and closing points, and report them and there will be some data to squable about.

Looks well done to me.
