Question

What is the proper way to remove AND replace the oil fill tube on a 13b (S5 n/a) intermediate housing? (the big tube with the screw on oil cap)

What is the proper way to remove AND replace the oil vent (?) tube on a 13b (S5 n/a) intermediate housing? (the small tube that sticks out to the rear of the housing where a vaccum/emessions hose attaches)

I have found a guy local to me that rebuilds rotary engines on the side. He has been doing it for quite some time and has his own lapping table. I was impressed when I saw his shop and agreed to let him lap the housings for the rebuild I am in. I got them back last week with great looking surafaces. The small problem is that he did not re-attach the oil fill tube. I was instructed that if I heated the housing slightly with a torch the tube would slide in with a bit of force.

The big problem is that he ground off the oil vent tube. I did not notice this when I picked them up, I only saw that when I got it home.

I will call him on Monday to find out how he expects me to replace the vent tube. But I want to hear from you guys how it should of been done!

Its just a press fit. I use a bock of wood and a deadblow hammer to re-insert mine.

Are they both (oil fill, vent) a press fit like that?

How did you remove the original oil vent?

Sacrificed the oil wnet, bought new ones to install. To remove get a drill bit just smaller than the vent tube, cut it off flush and then drill out. Most likely about 1/2 thru it will come loose.

I just used the same technique to remove the Coolant Supply tube to the thermowax. Then that size hole left in the block was surprissenly close to the proper hole size to tap for a 10mm bolt!

It looks like I will be buying one of these from Mazdatrix.

10-4170-8562.....TUBE BREATHER.........CENTER HOUSING......... $ 4.49

I refuse to pay overnight delivery on a $5.00 part so yet another week delay in my rebuild. Hell.. it will probably take me that long to fit the side seals anyway.

BTW: How do you REMOVE the oil fill tube? I tried it today on a spare housing I have and successfully made the base of it square with a pipe wrench. I tried a "strap wrench" but it was junk, could not get any grip on it. I was able to rotate it a bit at a time but all attempts at pulling it out did nothing.

heat up the area where it goes in nice and hot (really hot). Spray penetrant on it a few time and let it sit for a few hours, it'll fly out
