What are the experts' thoughts on properly building a motor so that the coolant stays put?

I'm no expert but make sure that you tighten the tension bolts in sequence and to specs....

32-39 N.m {3.2-4.0 kgf.m, 24-28 ft.lbf} for 13b-rew

and dont let the motor get too hot. this might be material for another thread but ive seen a lot of 12a's that look like they ran a little warm for a long time and it looks like it does damage

Any tips or tricks involving the o-rings, o-ring grooves, sealant, etc.?

just make sure they are clean, and undamaged
