Locost is not a typo. I really have no idea what is going on with the chassis yet. I won't be involved in that end of the project. I do know the builder is looking for FC components like brakes, differential, etc. An FC parts car will be the donor for most of the project.

Though I'd love nothing more that to create a fully custom intake with ITBs I just don't see it being in the budget. Having done enough stuff like this I have a good idea of how the little things, like simple hardware, send a budget spiraling skyward.

Having said that I have procured an S4 TII engine with a blown coolant seal for $75 to begin the build. Figure I can sell off the rotors (assuming they are good) for what Ihave in the engine for a $0 starting point. The NA rotors will come from our donor car. It's still possible at this point to find an S5 donor but the options we have on the table right now are all S4. Again, I'd love nothing more than to use lightened S5 components but it's just not in the budget.

The car is not only going to compete at the $2006 challenge but the intent is to have a fun autocrossers for the future so we've decided to do the engine right and use new seals through out so that will eat the large portion of the $600 engine budget I've been given. If the intake isn't perfect right now it will be easier to go back and re-do that at a later date when there isn't such a budget crunch. Sacrificing internals for the cost of a proper intake is false economy when you view the whole picture.

All that said I've went here and plugged some numbers into the formula.

Intake Tuning Thread

I will be using an RB template so the supplied timing numbers in that thread happen to fit nicely. Anyone care to comment on the formula and how effective they think it will be?

A LocOst and a locUst are 2 different things! If you're building a locost, then go to http://www.mcsorley.net/ for plans (error free), then I would suggest for whoever is building it to do the strengthening mods shown at http://locost7.info/mirror/chassis.php under the aussie section. It strengthens the chassis significantly and it's also slightly lighter and cheaper to do so.

You can't say better than this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ducati-748-...590370424QQrdZ1, and if you're building a chassis then you'll have someone that can weld a manifold.

The only other "major" problem I can see you having is what you're going to do for a radiator. Over here a VW polo has a suitable double-core aluminium rad that's about as big as you can fit under the nosecone, AFAIK some of the Golfs had the same rad - it can definitely handle 200bhp.

I'm not involved with the chassis. Not even in the back of mind.

The radiator has concerned me. We may have to get creative and/or do some serious boneyard diving.

I have oil coolers coming out of my ears. We'll have to see what the budget fairy allows for plumbing. My experience with the ITS car says dual stock FC coolers do the trick. But a two pass, two row rad gets taxed pretty well.

I should be able to get you a part number for the rad, I remember them costing in the region of €50.

you're auto-xing and not road racing right?

I road race a 2nd gen in ITS. That's where the dual oil cooler comment came from. This locost project will be autocrossed.

yeah, so maybe it can get away with a smaller cooling system/radiator?
