I found a roll of stainless steel wool but the cost alone makes the Magnaflow more desireable. Thanks Heretic.

Third choice is to attempt to make my own. I have a dead Rotary Engineering glasspack that is hollow inside. All the glass stuff must have blown out years ago. The outer shell is good. The inner pipe has gotten loose. It's only 2.0" and I have no problems with gutting it for a 2.5" pipe. I just need to determine whether my time is worth 50-60 bucks to stand at a drill press all day. Then of course there is the stainless steel wool that must be sourced and purchased. Finally there is the welding.
I'm left wondering how well it will work when finished.
sand121, can you give me some details like hole size, spacing/distance, pipe diameter, what you installed it on, what was the rest of the system like etc? Thank you.
Try a restaurant supply company for course stainless scrubbing pads. Works good. Lasts a long time.

I put a magnaflow resonator in my pport it did nothing but add shine...
we had good luck with the racing beat turbo back preslilencer, it actually does something. our race car went from 105sh db to 98ish db....

I have rebuilt a glasspack using steel wool from the hardware store. That was before I found out that I spent two hours removing the glasspack, cutting it open, packing it, rewelding it, and reinstalling it, when I could have just bought one for $60.
Time is money, but you cannot buy time, you can only save it. Two hours of shop time is worth more than $30/hour to me.
I noticed a minimal sound difference between open pipes on a peripheral port and adding one glasspack. Adding a second one toward the end made an enormous sound difference, with no change in idle. You could almost shut the engine off by putting a chambered muffler on the end of the pipe. Sensitive to exhaust restriction, yeah?
