Hot start issues
#1
So i just finished a rebuild. And i'm 300 miles into the break-in. It starts right up when it's cold. But hot starts are a bitch. It doesn't flood, at least I don't think it's flooding. It's a S513BT blow through weber 45dcoe incase you needed to know. NE1 got any Ideas? Timeing L 10* BTDC and T 2* BTDC w/ locked dizzy.

Also what do the pros recomend for my breakin. I just rebuilt withnew side, oil, and corner seals and all springs. I reused apex seals and rotor bearing and stat bearings. All the bearings were near perfect they all looked brand new. So I did a 3500 rpm for 1.5 hour then 2500 for an hour and then1500 for an hour. Now I've got 300 miles on it withoutgoing over 4k. I was planning 500 no 4k oil change, and then another 1000 miles no over 6k. Does that sound good?

I don't think is vapor lock. It might just be that the seals are not yet seated properly. Something may be sticking because of heat soak and finally loosening up as the intake charge cools off the trouble spot.

Hmm, I'd guess that it is flooding due to low compression. Pull a plug and confirm.
What's your compression like? What was your tolerance for the side seal to corner seal junction? How worn were the apex seals?
Dude, I have a digital compression tester. Let me know and I can come out and test the bitch.

sounds alright without new apexs ect. ITs vapour lock or something similiar when its warm is it?
yeah or the gas boils out of the carb, or its out of tune.
you set idle speed and mixture yet?

considering that you replaced all the springs with new pieces, i would tend to agree with j9fd3s.
as for the break-in regimen, looks fine to me. you're probably okay at 500 miles since you didn't change bearings, but better safe than sorry and stick to the 1500 mile plan you formulated. good luck.

It would only run if it was really really rich, like 10:1 rich. LOL!! As time goes by it's been running more and more stoic. I'm 100% sure it's just break in since I reused the stock seals.
I got brand new apex seal springs, FD cornerseal springs, solid cornerseals. Every seal and spring was brand new, except for the apex seals and bearings. Ran out of money. I did a really small port on the intake and left the exhaust stock. All the side seals were clearanced to .025" (big debate on weather .02 or.03 was best. I went with inbetween)
Heff on Sunday if you want to swing by I should be home most of the day. Give me a call.

560 miles in just home 4um werk going to change the oil: Still won't start hot. If I let it cool for literally 2 minutes it'll start with some pedal play. When it's cold it starts on the first compression stroke. Starts cold better than any engine I've ever had.
