Mike,

Do you have dimensions for the rx8 tranny? Is it the same length as the FC turbo ones? Does it share more similarity with the FC TIIs or the FD tranny? What about the bell housing? Is it 13BT / 13B-RE / 13B-REW compatible?

BTW gear ratios are (if anyone was wondering)

1st: 3.358

2nd: 2.060

3rd: 1.404

4th: 1.000

5th: 0.713

6th: 0.582

final drive: 4.300

the usa rx8 comes with a 4.44 rear. and the rx8 4.3 is the same part number as the fd 4.30 gear set and is priced accordingly

I destroyed 2 of them.. mostly because the Rx8 is a bit heavy.. to much weight being launched at redline with a 1.9, 2.0 sixty foot mark..

you ever think about dropping an fd tranny in it?

Thoose arnt even close to the right gear ratios, or final drive, that looks like ratios from a v8 firebird or something.

Gear Type 6 Speed Manual

Final Drive 4.44:1

1st Gear Ratio 3.76:1

2nd Gear Ratio 2.27:1

3rd Gear Ratio 1.65:1

4th Gear Ratio 1.19:1

5th Gear Ratio 1.00:1

6th Gear Ratio 0.84:1

thoose are the ratios.

just out of curiosity, are there any shops that can beef the rx8 tranny up? if it can be made stronger, the fd would be fun with a 6-speed. but then i'd have to get a smaller turbo to justify the gearing :(

heretic 06-06-2006 06:19 PM

Look on the bright side. The 2-6 spread is nice and tight. Pretend 1st doesn't exist and observe:

0th Gear Ratio 3.76:1

---

1st Gear Ratio 2.27:1

2nd Gear Ratio 1.65:1

3rd Gear Ratio 1.19:1

4th Gear Ratio 1.00:1

5th Gear Ratio 0.84:1

Now you can justify a too-large turbo since the engine speed won't be dropping off so much after a shift.

guitarjunkie28 06-07-2006 12:33 AM

meh, i wouldn't use anything larger than a 62-1 with that gearing.

but i'd just blow it up anyway :p

AH CRAP! I read the 6 speed automatic on mazda.com, not the 6 speed manual...

bad news, shifter is about 2" further forward than the FC.

the attached pic is the input, main, and counter shaft. the random input shaft at the top is a 97 miata...

So with some minor modification to the shifter hole, you could technically make it work in an FC correct? Or does nothing match up under the car?
