Thumbs down

Hi all,

Here is the story...I sent my engine out to have work/repair done on it. While discusing things on the phone the one guy there told me I somehow have S5 rotor housings in my 1988 S4 engine. I was told it wasn't a big deal, and I just left it at that. Finally got my engine back today...only, the rotor housings are totaly different than the ones I sent them...Now I know what S5 housings look like!

I called them up and told them of the situation, and that I have the pics to prove that the housings I sent them are different. It appears MY housings have now been sold to someone else! They will give me one of there best looking S4 sets whithout charge, but I won't be getting MY housings back. Here are some pics to show you all what my housings looked like. Now they look like some regular S5's with ugly castings, knock sensor bungs and all. The reason I want to know if these are J-spec or not is because I heard J-spec are made better and are worth more(let me know if I'm wrong). If I don't get the same or better housings from them I'm gunna be angry. [attachment=30664:attachment][attachment=30665:attachment][attachment=30666:attachment]

I don't think so. All the engines(a-spec or j-spec) are made in the hiroshima plant. There is really no difference in the housings at all unless you look at them as tii, or 13b-re/rew housings.

What about S4 engines? Do you see in the first picture...where "13B" is. Is that how all S4 housings are made?

___ __________

i.e. this way... _l13Bl_____ or this way ... | 13B |

| M A Z D A | | M A Z D A |

'''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''''''''''''''

PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU KNOW!

I'm suposed to tell them if I want to keep the S5 ones they sent me, or get them replaced with S4 housings they have in stock.

Thanks.

Oops. I guess I'm still new at posting. What I was trying to illustrate was the difference in the place where 13B gets put. Are there S4's with the casting strait across (like the S5's I got back), or are they all S4's made with just like the ones in the picture?

Main thing with the S4 and S5 rotorhousings is what computer you are using? If it is stock the S4 and S5 rotorhousings have different timing on the sprakplugs and you have to use the corresponding computer for it. If your using aftermarket I wouldn't worry too much. Like previous post no difference between U.S. spec rotorhousings and JDM housings.

Ok. Thats all cool. Just for the heck of it I went out to my decomissioned 1986 SE manual, popped the hood, and scraped away the grime covering the "13B MAZDA" spot on the rotor housings. Guess what...the housings aren't the same. You can see in my picture the way "13B" is placed with nothing on either side of it. Well on my '86's housings "13B" is on a plane that goes all the way across from one side to the other.( | 13B | ). Also, why do my housings have the Hiroshima factory location stamped on the tops, while others I've seen don't. I was told by the people at the repair shop that Mazda did have a few contracts with other foundries. I know my housings came from a Mazda factory in Hiroshima, Japan because the say so on them. Personally, the only reason I care about this is because I liked the way my housings looked and want to have them replace them with an identical set(as shown in the pics). No crummy looking plane on either side of the "13B" and deffinately has to have the Hiroshima factory stamp on the top.

Just out of curiosity, would anyone interested go check thier own engines and see what type of housings you have. i.e. Just "|13B|" or

"| 13B |"

Thanks guys...Please be easy on me.

The housing in the top pic looks the same as the S4 JDM motor that I have.
