[quote name='MPM' date='Jul 20 2005, 04:40 PM']Just my thoughts and only mine.........A good quality(not big) street port on both the intake and exhaust ports and the proper intake/exhaust combination will get you what you want. The standard issue Racing Beat upper intake with a sidedraft carb or throttle bodies on the intake side. The header is a toss up as I haven't done any testing. For convenience the RB collected header/presilencer combo is hard to beat. But if you must have the ultimate you'll have to do some testing. True dual, short primary or long primary? Might get to that later. Tuning is ofcourse very important. Not just changing jets in a carb, but adjusting the fuel pressure, different plugs, spacers between the carb and intake. These things take time. How much do you want to tweak to get the most HP?

TWM Induction has an article available with some engine dyno charts in it. Click the "Carburetor vs. Fuel Injection" link at the top of the page.

wow, just finished reading that article, thanks a lot for that! some really good info on tuning...

yeah, well originally i was being very conservative in my estimation, since i'm sure some form of a bridgeport could yield even more than the stated power goal if done correctly.

talking to people it's more and more convincing to stick with a well built street port.

i want to be fuel injected, but going carb has its advantages. the main thing is simplicity and cost, you really can't beat it for that.

but for sure fuel injection i will stick with.

as for how much i want to tweak, i will do it to the extent that time/money will allow me.

the reason i like the non-turbos is the fact that you HAVE to pay attention to the details in order to get the most out of them.

just to make it clear, that twm article the power they measured is at the flywheel

if the streetport is more agressive more power could be made. and the stock lower intake manifold with the sleeves is not the best thing for power.

no, i wasn't really concerned with their specific power outputs.

in fact what i was really paying attention to was the dyno testing, it has cleared quite a few things up.

anyways, the stock 6pi sleeves is a tricky issue.

i currently have the PR sleeve inserts. at what point do these sleeves, with the PR inserts, become a major top end restriction? i don't mind losing a little low end if they are a big issue. i don't think the stock port is that great for flow either in terms of how it ends vertically, so i'm going to look into modifying that also if the sleeves are removed.

this goes back really to the whole stock manifold issue. i love the stock manifold with the VDI and all, but is there justification to chuck it out the window if i'm going for a 200whp streetport...

[quote name='coldfire' date='Jul 20 2005, 10:56 AM']do you have any dyno graphs yet? i'd be interested to see your torque curve.

I hope this works! I have another one where I made 184whp but that was with a superchips computer.

wow, that is a really nice curve for torque and horsepower. that's what i like about the NAs, peak torque isn't much but it comes on early and stays very stable.

just wondering, do you still have the stock 6pi system still operational, or have you removed the sleeves?

My 6pi is not stock but it is operational. I should have listed in my mods that I have the PR sleeves. I kept my air pump for emissions purposes and I use vac hoses with fish tank valves to open both the 6pi's and the VDI. Crude but functional.

oh ok, so i'm assuming you have an S4 then with a S5 VDI swap...

well it looks like the sleeves aren't too much of a restriction then. i also have the PR sleeve inserts.

just to give a little update, i have picked up a bunch of junk 6-port irons and i am going to be practicing porting on them.

at this point i'm actually leaning towards using a standard streetport template, and then doing a bridge on BOTH the auxilary and secondary ports.

i was thinking maybe not even touching the primaries.

Megasquirt standalone will be built and then put into car when i bring it out of storage again in the spring...

i wonder if Kahren sells porting templates??

anyways, just wanted to bump also to see if anyone else has good input...

thanks
