This is turning out to be a great info thread for sure! I have checked in other forums and haven't found much info on lapping and end play. I hope this helps out others too because it sure has helped me.

Had to work all day today. Boo. Going to take the engine apart tomorrow and post some pics. of what I find.

Here is a pictogram I worked up, that shows the relationships in the thrust assembly. The key is that:

More is more. More spacer length means more free play. You get that stuck in your head and you have it forever.

I am looking forward to the answer.

I regard looking at the paint dots is actually cheating.

Picture is my Camel Lights GTP car.

A rotary of course.

Alright Lynn, here's the scoop. I tore down to the rear housing, o-rings look ok- ****. So I had to take the center iron off- double ****, low and behold there was my incorrect o-ring on the back side of the first housing. At least I didnt' have to take the first housing and rotor apart so it really wasnt that bad and I can say now that I know my rotary inside and out now. LOL.

Here's a couple of pics. The first pic is the wrong o-ring that I used. Second- both o-rings side by side- the larger one is the correct one. 3 and 4 the motor stack complete and end play at .003. I don't know the history of the two roller bearings so I ordered two new one's and a couple diff sizes of spacers. I want to shoot for about .0025 to .003 end play as this is going to be a runner. I cranked the motor over and boy does it have compression now. Can't wait to see what it does when it is broken in. Thanks for the help and I'll keep you updated on the install and first start up, etc.

Hey Lynn

I've got a quick question for you regarding the thrust assembly

when it comes to the 20b are you still looking for the same amount of endplay when compared to

its 13b brother?

I am guessing here, but if I built it, I would make it the same. The thinking in both cases is the same.

Just enough to be sure you cannot trap a bearing under any situation. So, a strong .002" to .035".

If there was an easy way to keep it at zero without hurting the bearings, then zero would be the answer. The clearance is to protect the bearings.

Hey thanks for the reply,

i did check it before pulling it down and it was at 0.07 mm(not sure what that works out to in inches.

but since info on the 20b is a little short i thought it wouldnt hurt to ask.

Thanks again
