All the newer ones are 2mm, yes.

Well that sounds like a plan! Thanks for the info guys, and if anyone else has some input, let me know.

So stock Mazda seals = 2mm?

mazda has made 5mm carbon both 1 and 2 piece 12a seals, 3mm carbon and iron 12a seals, carbons are 1 peice, irons are 2.

13b seals in 3mm 2 peice, 2mm 3 peice, and now 2mm 2 peice.

So 2mm 2-piece?

Thanks for the confusion...haha.

Has anyone heard of the "unbreakabe" seals. They are from Australia and claim that they will never break. They have a picture of the seal spiraled.

Just looking for some opinions.

hurleys are junk

i've opened 2 motors with 3mm hurley apex seals and both had pitting on the rotors from detonation and broken corner seals. one had a broken side seal too! rotor housings looked fine.

so when you say they're "junk", what do you mean? they're strong, and easy on rotor housings.

atkins seals are soft, RA seals are hard, stock seals are both soft and hard, in the right places. ceramics can tolerate more detonation, but will still break.

z-beater, these what you're talking about? http://www.southcoastrotary.com.au/scrseals.htm

never used them before... anything that strong can't be very nice to the rotor housings. not to mention, your side and corner seals are the next ink in the chain. so replace them with the undestructables? ok, then your rotors are the next thing to go.

nothing will ever compensate for bad tuning.

stock seals work great in 90+% of all applications.

maybe hurley has updated their stuff, but you used to see the seals falling out on a pretty regular basis. dont have any 1st hand experience with em, i just use stockers, cause most of the time the car is stock

I like the weakest link theory, it is an inconvenience no matter what when something in the engine lets go, so it seems, for my money, to use a series of parts that cause the lowest collateral damage if/when they fail.

If you put up premium money for seals, for instance, and they destroy the housings during use to the point that the seals themselves fail what is the benifit in that? Now your coming out of pocket for twice the money than if you went with a lower dollar seal that wasn't so hard on the housings.

well they have the long life seals, and the race seals. as i understand, the race seals are softer, so they don't hurt the other parts if they let go. double check me on that though, i'm not 100% sure.

my next motor is either going to have stock seals, or the RA "super" seals. a lot of peope say they kill the rotor housings, but everyone that i've seen saying that has used the ra springs...it's common knowledge lately to use stock springs. so up to date, i haven't had any problems with RA seals. but i still can't decide between that and stock...i'm working my setup over pretty hard for 91 octane pump gas and a little extra detonation resistance might be useful in case i make a booboo with the tuning.

Would you expect to see diffrent Compression with the diffrent seals? (After run in)

Also would 2mm 2pc's still be good for 350rwhp? (Safely set up)

If you where going to build a tweeked engine would the RA seals be a better bet? (Take more abuse) or is it a case of best guess becouse its hard to measure how much abuse they will take before they let loose?

I have also read the Springs make a big diffrence to the Apex seal performance, can you get Uprated Springs or are Mazda's own the best to use? Where do RA come into this? Do they use aftermarket or OE?
