Awesome speedster, if you could post some pics, somehow, that'd would be great. It wouldn't take much to increase the surface area. I'm just wondering if it's done only in the housings and not in the side plates?

it only done by he spark plugs, where it hottest

Ok, found a pic on Racing Beat's web site. The actual image was veeeery small so I had to enlarge it somewhat. You can see the cuts in the top of the housing more clearly. Here's a quote from their web site...

"Rotor Housing Water Jacket Modification

The Rotor Housing Water Jacket Modification is intended to improve cooling in the hot zone of the rotor housing to increase both housing and seal life. This modification involves cutting grooves in the water jacket in the vicinity of the leading and trailing spark plugs to increase heat transfer out of the housing inner surface. The modification can be performed on a new rotor housing, and is only appropriate for race and the most extreme street use.

The price is a labor charge. Contact Racing Beat at 714-779-8677 to schedule this service."

Question is, is a 475-500rwhp single turbo RX7 considered extreme street use? :-)

The FD housings have this done to them from factory but not to the same extent. Have a close look in the water passages near the plugs and you will see.

anyone have a picture of what crusty rotor is talking about on the fd housings.

never heard that they had this.

Node man, it's "powder" puff, not "power" puff! Don't ask me how I know https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

I didn't do it.

Those heterophobe mods and admins did it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

Just a little update, the dremel cutoff wheel I was using lasted about 20 slots which isn't very many considering I put about 5 slots into each coolant passage. Two rotor housings, two sides to each housing, about 10 passages....need to find a better tool for it. I haven't been able to locate a carbide or diamond tipped wheel that's small enough to fit in there. Any ideas?
