i took off the twin turbo assembly took a few minutes. man i hate those turbos. well i spun the engine before by hand i hear compression. this engine has 3mm hurley seals and a street port from a rx7 shop in NY. well i look inside the engine through the exhaust port there are gouges on the rotor housings big long scrapes. this engine had previously detonated and was rebuilt by said shop. this engine only has 50 miles on it! the rotors and apex seals look fine so far! those hurley seals when they break aren't supposed to damage the engine at all.... i think they may have swapped old housings in ???? or reused the old junk housings ??? i am not sure. i have some pictures but its pretty dark outside. all the apex seals are still there one rotor has a small scratch but that is normal i think. anyway i hope nobody ever goes to this rx7 shop,i already tell people to stay away now i have PROOF! anyway pix coming in a minute https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

gonna see if i can get a pic of the rotor housings inside. i doubt it but i'll try https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Silver Ninety Three 01-14-2003 09:44 PM

Rotors look gouged. If the housings are gouged then you'll lose compression and get a tone of blowby. I'd say that engine is worthless. I hope you didn't spend too much.

the rotors are fine. i believe they used bad rotor housings on the second rebuild of this engine!!! oh well it was still a good deal. two good rotors and three good side housings

Mr. Stock 01-14-2003 10:11 PM

You need a boroscope.

amp 01-14-2003 10:17 PM

emission ports welded shut it seems...

vosko 01-14-2003 10:21 PM

this was one of the worst rebuilt engines i have seen. i would rather a mazda reman than an engine built by this shop. the only reason i purchased this engine was a spare so that i could judge ito rebuild it and port it the correct way. it does have 3mm rotors. i think i'm going to leave them as finding a set of 2mm rotors and eshaft is near impossible!

Fd3BOOST 01-14-2003 10:37 PM

Plus the rotors are already fitted with 3mm, you would have a hell of a time getting 2mm to work now https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Hey but they did spray paint it for you. :bigok: I heard that adds like 20 horsies;)

I want to see the pics when ITO splits her open.

teknics 01-14-2003 10:41 PM

setzep 01-14-2003 10:49 PM

Doh!

My j-spec kind of looks like that on the inside but it's just oil/carbon/sludge/atf build up on the rotor housings, well at least I hope thats all it is. If not then https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif But then I'll get to make some real hp https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

i detonated with hurley 3mm seals and scratched my housings enough that i needed new ones. they were however, nice to my turbo on the way out =]

vosko 01-14-2003 11:37 PM

Judge Ito won't be rebuilding this for a while though. i need to save some money first and i'm more concerned with getting my car 100% before i worry about fixing a spare engine https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Judge Ito 01-15-2003 06:44 AM

Vosko that is the sloppiest engine I have seen in a while. Vosko I understand you don't want to put this shops name out there but a shop doing this type of garbage should be exposed. If, we are supposed to set a standard, garbage like that engine you bought should not be exceptable. Just my opinion. What was the shops name????????????????

93 R1 01-15-2003 07:20 AM

yeah... who was it?

vosko 01-15-2003 09:34 AM

http://www.rx7s.com

T&R Racing in NYC. i know the history of this engine. it was originally a brand new mazda reman they took it apart ported it put 3mm seals. it ran in the car for a few weeks the engine blewup(what a surprise). brought it back to them paid to have it rebuilt again and it ran 50 miles then it crapped it out. my friend wasted so much time and money in the car he decide to part out the whole car and give up on rx7's......

at this rate. i might just buy a reman when the time comes and use this engine as a core!

j9fd3s 01-15-2003 11:14 AM

i know why it only went 50miles after they "rebuilt" it. hey judge how much you wanna bet they reused the lowmile water seals?

mike

vosko 01-15-2003 11:48 AM

come on they RE-REbuilt it LMAO

neoamd 01-15-2003 12:47 PM

vosko 01-15-2003 02:06 PM

ok who wants to buy a ghetto LIM! $40 shipped LOL

nyt 01-15-2003 03:41 PM

in their defense, how do you know they werent asked to rebuild the motor with those parts? ive been around the shop for countless engine buildings and they have always told the customers when parts (housings, rotors, etc) need to be replaced. I have never seen them re-use old water seals. if this motor blew once, and then again, you think it might be a problem with something else other than the motor that wasnt fixed?

vosko 01-15-2003 03:50 PM

i understand things happen but this whole car was built by T&R..... if you blame the builder of the car and the builder of the engine it leads to the exact same place...

1Revvin7 01-15-2003 04:11 PM

cool, looks just like mine, same color**

Turbo II 01-15-2003 05:22 PM

how come people like painting it? i just havent caught on yet

93 R1 01-15-2003 06:03 PM

Damn I thought they had a pretty good rep.

Thats the first bad thing I've heard. Didn't they rebuild that dudes car when it cought on fire? I think his name is speednyc or somethin.

This is a very ignorant comment. If I had a customer tell me to rebuild their engine with garbage parts, I would send the customer out my door with his car. Plus like Vosko said ,all the work was done by this shop in NYC. The owner bought a re-man engine. I have bought a couple of re-man engines and they come with rotors that meet all clearances, side housings, rotor housings and spotless eccentric shaft. There is no excuse for this type of bad work.

teknics 01-15-2003 07:17 PM

vosko how about $30 for the LIM and i pick it up?

kevin

teknics 01-15-2003 07:18 PM

vosko 01-16-2003 07:53 PM

if anybody is interested i will sell the shortblock for $900. it can be rebuilt or used as a $1000 core value towards a reman

Yeah, and I'm pretty sure that it was my friend's fault. He ran the fuel lines right next to the starter. :squint:
