i have an first gen that i want 2 buy an it has a 12a i didnt really want 2 do a 13b swap at least not 4 now so i was wondering if there were any small things i could do to bring out it's potential,and i was wondering if i should leave tha 12a or do tha swap i dont want a low 10's car i want it 2 be very streetable but able 2 pull off 11's at least

a car that does 11's is real fast. if you want to keep the 12a engine, your basicly going to have to re-engineer the car, in order to achieve that kind of speed. ur best bet to add some power is to do the standard exhaust, intake sort of stuff and port the block. to run 11's u'd be best working on a different engine. the 13b would be easier.

The 12a came with 100hp at the flywheel. That's around 80hp to the wheels.



To at least break 11s on the 1/4 with the car's stock weight of 2400 lbs, you need over 300hp to the wheels. That's about 350 or so at the flywheel that you need.



That's 250 more horses you need to get and you can only do that by porting, and adders like turbo/or N02 and over revving the little engine.

yah an all out race 12a with p ports, fuel injection, and slide throttles, only does about 280 flywheel hp, should do mid 12's

one thing i hate about fast and the furious, they make the supposed "10 sec cars" look streetable, like they are dd's.

Yeah no kidding. Now everyone who is just getting into cars has no depth or perception on what actually constitutes a fast streetable car. A fast street car is IMO in the 14s. Most cars bone stock are 16-17s. My brother dumped literally thousands of dollars into his '85 mustang, and it just broke 9.99 s using alcohol fuel and 14.9:1 static compression.

cmon stock LS1 fbodies go 12's with a driver that has a clue. Add a bunch of nitrous and you have 11's, add slicks and you have 10's. Still a DD, it's simply a good drag car.

I mean in terms of 6 cylinders or less on 'commonly seen' non-turbo cars. 14s is pretty fast.



Anyone on a budget sure isn't going to have an LS1. They will probably have an N-Body or J-Body. If they're lucky, they may snag a cheap W-Body.
