What exactly does carbon build up do to the engine? What problems could it cause? Is there any way you can avoid carbon build up? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png

good question, I was wondering that too...

Well I know it can cause detonation of the motor but what exactly happens to the rotors on carbon build up? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

I think carbon build-up is like adding metal to the internal parts of the engine. If you did that, the combustion chamber would be smaller, therefore increasing the compression (but not in a cotrolled sort of way). ping, detonation! (firing early, combustion before spark)

In a piston motor, I think this can cause "dieseling," where the compression causes detonation, and the motor continues to "diesel" after it is shut off, because it's firing without the use of a spark plug (kinda like how a diesel engine works).

I could be wrong, but that's how I understand it.

i'm not sure but i thought lockup was pieces of carbon buildup breaking off and settling around the rotor in such a manner as to jam it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

carbon comes from the exhaust, all the crap in there, and residue from the combustion. I have never really heard you can blow your engine from it, but as long as you keep it in good shape, change the oil regurally (dont wanna inject dirty oil into the chamber) and take it to redline a few times, it should stay nice and clean.

thats just the way i see it.

Thanks guys so how can you avoid this by taking the Revs to the redline sometimes?

just keeping the car well maintained and changing the oil should be good, giving it a good romp cant hurt either.

atf trick works well.
