Ok, I have read about every post I can find on porting in these message boards and have yet to see the answer to this one:



What portion of the corner seal and apex seal does the bridge have to catch? From some of the pics I've seen on here it looks like it is surprisingly little area...



I have "mapped" out the area the corner and apex seals contact the side housing in the intake area and just wonder what I need to leave there to properly support both of them. It looks like the apex seal is the the determining one since it is actually closer to the rotor housing than the bulk of the corner seal.

The bridge thickness depends on the application. If your looking for a streetable bridgeport or all out race engine like mine. For a streetable bridgeport I like a 4mm thick bridge and for a serious race engine I use a 2mm thickness. The apex seals runs exactly in the center of its sides through the bridge, from the opening of the port to the closing of the port. Same goes for the corner seal.

Where is the damn pics I posted.

On a face of a plate you can generally see the track that the corner seal takes.

So your saying Ito that it needs to be 4mm thick and 2 mm for your race apps.

Right?

Yes sir, atleast a 4mm thick bridge for longevity for a street application. The thickness helps to keep the bridge nice and strong over a long period of time. The 2mm thinner bridge has a tendency to crack and does not last as long.

Judge - I was just looking at the housings again. I "hogged" out a rough port on a junk side housing just to get and idea of what material was there. I then slid a slide valve in and marked the trim line on it. When you rotate the valve it shows something interesting. Since the bridgeport is at an angle and not perpendicular to the tube centerline it works out that the auxiliary port is 1/2 open before the bridge port starts to open. Then they are both completely open at the same time. So, if the speed at which the valve opens could be controlled it might give a smoother changeover...
