I'm going to be rebuilding my motor this week. Trying to decide if I should go with an even bigger street port, or if I should half bridge it. I am going to be runing the gt 35/40 turbo again. Is this big enough to work with a bridge port? I want to be able to make 500+ rwhp at 20 psi. My main concern is reliability. It seams I can't get 10k miles out of a motor anyway. 20k miles out of a motor would be nice at this rate. I should be able to do it with my new tuner. I've also heard that bridgeported motors are hard to start and flood out easily. I don't mind loosing low end, but I want to be able to drive the car around town now and then as well as to meets and races. I'd like to hear any ideas.

kahren 02-24-2003 12:15 AM

dont bridge it, low end will suck, no need to do this with a turbo engine, u are not going all out power u shoudl eb able to reach yoru goal of 500whp withouht goign bridge at 20 psi.

just my 2 cents

Street port. What other mods does the car have already?

TYSON 02-24-2003 01:23 AM

Ask Pluto how he likes his. He lives near you, no? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Just leave the street it has on it.With a bridge you will sacrifice alot of Streetability that it used to have. With proper tuning 500RWHP is still attainable.https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Judge Ito 02-24-2003 05:31 AM

where's that ecu????

93 R1 02-24-2003 07:00 AM

I say **** it. Throw a half bridge in it. Shouldn't be too bad on the street.

Silver Ninety Three 02-24-2003 11:46 AM

Pluto is my room mate https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png You got to remember that his is pretty much a full race car, and he has another 3rd gen to drive daily. Here's my relevant mod list:

Apexi PFC with gm 3 bar

K2RD custom fuel rail with 1680cc seccondaroies

550cc primaries

SX fpr

cosmo pump(I plan to double it up and run 2 pumps in parallel)

RPM GT 35/40 turbo kit, 1.06 exhaust a/r

SR resonated midpipe

Greddy SP Catback

Greddy 2 row r-spec front mount

Mazdacomp radiator

pulleys

etc...

Sorry Ito, I was so busy packing the rest of that day that I forgot about it. If you need it tell Vosko to get it from Jehan.

Also, last dyno was 470rwhp @ 20 psi boost on c18. The results were ok, but I think the motor was previously hurt and had a stuck seal on the rear rotor. I want to break the 500 mark at the same bost level. Here's a pic of my current ports:

vosko 02-24-2003 11:52 AM

so where are the rest of the pix ?

vosko 02-24-2003 11:55 AM

oh yeah i'm gonna try and dyno wednesday morning. get some nice dyno charts finally!

Hey how about that semi peripheral port?

C

vosko 02-24-2003 12:56 PM

just make the street port even bigger

j9fd3s 02-24-2003 01:04 PM

the bridge is still streetable but its pretty hard core, i would keep it a street port

mike

SPEED_NYC 02-24-2003 02:16 PM

you can make 500 on a street port. keep it street ported, you got lots of room left to go much bigger!

vosko 02-24-2003 02:22 PM

what are you doing about the blown rotor ?

Silver Ninety Three 02-24-2003 02:30 PM

I have a reman sitting here:)

vosko 02-24-2003 02:31 PM

oops totally forgot lol

vosko 02-24-2003 02:32 PM

why don't you just put the reman in so you can figure out the problem and if you blow it up again you are still under warranty https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Lets see 500 rwhp with NO BROKEN PARTS! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Turbo II 02-24-2003 03:10 PM

yeah go with a street port

TYSON 02-24-2003 03:14 PM

Compared to Voskos ports you still have room to play with there, don't you? It looks like the housing is still a little smaller than the sleeve on the exhaust. Maybe those two bits would be enough without the bridge.

Just roll the engine hoist over to his car https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png He can give you a ride to work, can't he? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

vosko 02-24-2003 03:51 PM

yeah my ports are awesome. i love the lowend power it gives. i showed kahren https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png

Not to take anything away from KD Rotary because I happen to respect Dave and his wife even dough I have never meet them. But the ports on your engine Ihor are an insult to you. They told you that the ports were huge. Does port have stock intake opening and they slightly moved the port closing. FD3boost just ported his first engine and he did a better job in creating a port that will flow better then your ports and FD3boost is a ROOKIE and KDR has been around for a while. I'm very disappointed in does ports.. Ihor you want 500hp @20 psi of boost? all you need is a better port job.

Read the "porting FAQ" at the top of the page https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

treceb 02-25-2003 09:46 PM

im no expert, but i think them exhaust ports are a tad small. maybe its just the pic. as far as the intake ports, they look like a conservative port job, they dont look like they flow as good as they should. maybe a little tapering(i think thats the word) on the top would do them a favor. and thast for the primaries and secondaries. the primaries look stock to the untrained eye(me).

as far as a bridge or street port it all depends, IMO, on how, where and when you will be driving the car. you might not want to be stock in traffic with a bridge port or do a lot of stop and go traffic, etc.

I agree Ito, I thought they'd be bigger than that. This is why I am going to do with motor myself, with Steve's supervision. I wasn't happy with the way the car was running and the power it was putting out. Hopefully I'll get it right this time and stop wasting money on motors.

Judge Ito 02-27-2003 06:06 AM

Good luck Ihor.

qwester007 02-27-2003 07:21 AM

Bridgeporting is a total pain if you have to use the car as a daily driver. You can still get the power levels that you want with a nice streetport.

Silver Ninety Three 02-27-2003 02:08 PM

I'm hearing that it is hard to start and floods easily...
