Apex Seal Spring?

i have atkins apex seals, 3mm, the rebuild kit i got from them came with 1 spring per seal. but i have seen 2 springs on the apex also. what is correct????????

all the mazda factory 3mm seal engines used one spring, the 2mm seal engines have 2 springs

yea i think only hurley makes the dual-sprung 3mm seals, which i used to have in my motor, RA says you can modify their's to be dual sprung, but i dont think id want to grind away at my apex seals.

sounds good, i got scared when i saw apex seals like mine with 2 springs and my motor was already together!!

you probably get a more consistent loading of the seal, just a guess though

Dual springs allow the seals to have even pressure against the rotor housing. The additional middle spring helps keep the seals from warping in the center (which was very common on the seals in the 1st gen Rx7 due to having only one spring) because pressure is applied to the seal at the corner and center.
