3 Puffs
#1
I saw on a previous post about getting the customary 3 puffs .. i was just wondering how you do this ?? i know very little about rotary engines but am learning more and more by the day.. oh another stupid question.. will the motor run if there is a blown apex seal??

it gives a "puff" when the apex seal can seal well enough (in simple terms)when it passes over the intake it lets the air in then the rotor moves going in to the compression stroke where it would usually spark then then the rotor moves again going into the power stroke nd finally the exhaust where the exhaust is let out. it makes a puff because the air that you got from the intake does not leak out (bad apex seal) somewhere else and stays in the chamber till the exhaust stroke where the air from the intake is pushed out giving a "puff" hope this was clear enough

Oh i do have a question if you dont mind helping.. well current problems
1) Cold start - starts , dies, starts , dies.. starts i make it idle @ 1500 - 3000 for about 20 seconds then runs fine
2) Really bad gas smell ( have been told that my be exhaust leak but i think may be fuel problem)
I hope this is the right place to post these..

1. Cold star assist is not working properly (as you may know)
2.could be alot of stuff like PD leaking fcs have a problem with this, flooded, injectors not sealing correctly, or like you said it may just be you exhaust but i would make sure engine fires are not a good thing
