Hey,

Just wondering why Mazdacomp suggests substituting 86-88 bolts with the 74-85 ones. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Would they be comparable to 89-95 bolts if I silicone/shrink tube them to dampen vibration?

Thanks!

FYI. Attached is a pic of a 74-85 bolt.

Well I have run the late model tension bolts with no problems and quite a bit of n2o.I did use the silicone trick for good measure. The 84-85 13 bolts have a much larger shoulder diameter like in your pics but have not heard pro's cons to using these.they should be stronger but mazda may have changed the design for a reason. The shoulder diameter does not decrease on the older tension bolts like they do on 86 up,other than that I can see no differences.I have an extra set of the early tension bolts and may throw them into my next fd motor build or may not depending on the responses.......

Well, Mazda still uses the 89-95(by part#) short tension bolts in the renesis. I would gues they are the best since they still use them now. But why do they then recommend the 74-85 bolts to replace the 86-88 lathed bolts instead of the 89-95 ones? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png
