i'll be damned if i can remember what the source was [and it was so long ago that i was not mature enough to xerox (or steal ) the source], but i recall reading that the "A", "B" designations came from the seal types that the engines used, as heretic briefly mentioned the "newer" style 12As were actually 12Bs internally. the 13B Renesis totally threw me for loop in it's designation, but i guess since we must attach "Renesis" to it in order to distinguish it from the older 13Bs, it can't get mistaken. hopefully someone else heas read the same and can furnish a source or add more details.



by the way, thanks heretic, rotor width was good info i've never received on the 15A.

I dont care what they do so long as some day they bring us another nimble, sexy, boosted, rotary engine platform. AKA 4th gen Rx7.



Anyone else notice that all the rumors and spy shots of the "next gen Rx7" just kinda disappeared?

well i heard a while ago that atkins was working with mazda to develop a turbo Renesis, for the rx8. but they were having prolems with the new sides seals the the motor used.



in may Sport Compact Car had an artical on the Kabura, which is rumored to be the next rx-7.

the 2.3T engine is making 265rwhp with the throttle partway closed, and 3-5psi of boost. its got a lot of potential...

What does the throttle position matter if it's got positive manifold pressure anyway? I know what you mean, though.



With better but still pump gas friendly compression, rods that aren't made of rejected pot metal, better intake, and good exhaust, the Ranger version of that engine will make something like 250hp from 5500-8000rpm. Airflow limited by the camshafts. Upgrade the cams and it's up to 300hp, and we're still on stock as-cast unported heads. This is also before you dig up any kind of forced induction.



And, they are light.
