I always hear people talking about how too much power is not that good.. and not enough is tougher to get goin.. so basically where is a good place to start as far as horse power? 200? 250? or is it more about tuning the car to stay in that sweet spot where you get all the power?

Power is meaningless. Throttle response is the only thing you should be concerned with. If you can makes gobs of power at the same time, then go for it, but it truely means nothing if you can't control it.

How heavy is the car were talking about, what kind of suspension and LSD does it have? What tires? I would think it depends on those how much you need.

Torque is what spins the wheels.

So in other words the best drift car would be the new mustang GT with ultra stiff springs, ultra stiff rear sway bar, ridiculously dampened shocks for rebound and compression, a welded diff, and lots of stickers.

Stiff suspension is the last thing I would have thought you would need for drifting.

I would say at least 300...
Most of the S13 / S14 / S15 / FC / FD drifters run about 300 to 400hp. All those chassis are about the same weight. -Ted http://fc3spro.com/ |
