Too soon old, too late smart.
What part are you having trouble with? Maybe I can help.

I am taping the run-offs when I can. I've been out since 1999. My last race was a 24hour. I noticed the Celicas and thier sequential shift and HP was really serious the last few years. Last Mazda was Mike Lewis in his old car he sold to Marsha Mason.
I sold my old John Finger GT3/2 car because of the class weight reduction and thought it would never compete with full tube.
Any way the rotary can get the HP to be competative again?

There are a number of problems involved. Number one is politics. Mazda (Ford) has a full court press on to get into every possible class. Spec Miata will be a National class next year. (who cares?)
There is no interest in SCCA leadership in a Mazda winning any kind of National Championship. This fall was the last year that the Runoffs will be outside of Kansas. So now you will race on a featureless track that favors drivers who can stay awake for 45 minutes of boredom.
For the first time in 16 years (15 invitations in 5 classes) we won't even try to qualify next season.
The toyotas are usually turn Key cars for about $110,000.00. You will need a Hewland trans and 275 HP to get in the game. Notice that the GT# pole times have been faster than the GT-2 pole times.
The SCCA seems not to notice. The fast cars right now are the Nissans, and they cry about their low reving engines as the go down the straights like a rock down a mine shaft. The first one that showed up, the guy had never seen Mid Ohio before. Qualified on the pole and was never seen again. Poor little guy with a low reving engine. (they want bigger chokes).
So, if you have the pieces, a shiny semitractor trailer rig and a big team to faun over the car day and night, and your trans cost more than my house, and you really are tallented, and drive your *** off, and Peterson doesn't punt you off on the first lap, yes there is a chance for a Mazda to be champion again. But its a damn slim one. We were lucky to make the middle of the grid with a 1:37.8.
