What are the usual requirements for a roll cage in a 10.7-11.2 second convertible? I want to build my cage while the car is still stripped and need to know how far to go with it.

They'll be on you like stink on a monkey, so check out the NHRA specs for cages in the general regulations;

http://www.nhrasportcompact.com/2007/rules/index.html

It looks like you only 'need' a roll bar, but a convertible also needs arm restraints. You better check with your track about a cage, because the rules don't specifically say you need one if you haven't cut up the floor, etc.

This is where i run into a problem. I won't be running in a sport compact class anymore. The car is getting a 5.0 conversion... Having the v8 changes my class. I'll e-mail someone at nhra and see what I can find out. i'm going to be running at a few different tracks...

Roll cage rules have nothing to do with the engine in the car, they apply to all.

well, a multi-point cage has the very real possibility of saving your *** if something goes wrong, and if done right, also aids in rigidity, so i dont see why you wouldnt if you have the ability/$

ok, from what I understand: Verts running 13.99 - 10.00 have to have a 6 point roll BAR, not a cage.... I'm still gonna build a cage. Somehow I just don't see the little piece of metal across the top of the windshield holding up in a rollover.... I already have plenty of tubing (bought a shitload of it from a machine shop that was closing down) and a friend with access to a manderel bender and whatever kind of welding/machining tools I could ever want.

I'll post some pics when we get it built. I'm still waiting on my NHRA rulebook to see if there are any specifications on where the cage has to connect to the chassis....
