Was this really an SCCA issue? Sound requirements are usually site driven. For example, events at Qualcomm in San Diego have a tight requirement (93db at 50'?) because of local residents complaints. Doesn't have anything to do with the clubs that run there, they all should have the same requirement.

It sucks you didn't know about this ahead of time, but I'm not sure if the SCCA in general should be blamed for it.

Yes, they should. The local club is the SCR-SCCA. This is like saying contaminated fod at youtr local mcdonalds is not a corporate issue. They are they local contact/hands-on arm of the Parent Corporation. Their ENFORCEMENT of their OWN rules is inconsistant and without MERIT. It will be discussed at the next BOARD meeting of the SCR-SCCA. Hopefully the event CHAIRMAN will be sactioned and forced to make amends for his actions. NOT ONCE WERE THE local rules for this followed.

SCCA, in a word, sucks. I have been to several SCCA autocrosses in the past few years (well, this season has been a bust ) and they always suck. Whether the people treat me like I'm some noobie and insult my intelligence when speaking to me or that the whole event is a clusterfuck. And to top it all off, so many of the people there are uptight and take this autocross thing way too seriously. Jeebus, if you ain't getting paid to do it professionally but do it because it supposed to be fun, have fun with it. Leave the game face (and attitude) at home.

These days I'll only support the local run events. They're always very laid back and generally go very smoothly. Some people are competitive, but at least they don't take it too seriously at that level.

I still think you're making some pretty big generalizations. Local SCCA regions have alot of leeway to run their events as they see fit, including creating their own classes and rules if they want to provide for some local need.

I'd be pretty upset (as you are) at the local region and official(s) for ruining your weekend, but to use that as a platform to blast the SCCA in general is stretching things a little, IMHO.

In my local area (San Fran), the SCCA events are relatively strict on how they are run, but that is largely dictated by the fact they need to process 300+ competitors through each event. Other local marque clubs would break down when faced with that kind of load. I've run with other SCCA regions and the variance you get between them is great enough about the only common thing is that they supposedly refer to the same rulebook.

If your local region has problems or just plain sucks then you should work with them to make it better (I realize some personalities can make this difficult). Otherwise, run with another club.

Like I said, I am bringing this issue up at the next board meeting. I have dumped 6K+ in AUTO-Cross Modifications into my car this year. I do not appreciatte my efforts being thwarted by ONE PERSON's ability to make a generilized decree with no warning. AND it has long been a COMMON PROBLEM with the SCCA since its FOUNDING!

Yep, that's why I prefer to avoid SCCA events. Another region might magically be better elsewhere. That doesn't do me a damn bit of good as I am here and I will not drive across America to get possibly 4 runs that last about 1 minute each. I generally go about 75 miles as it is right now to get to some events and that's about my limit.
