soooooOOoo in the spec miata rules it says you have to use a specific front bumpstop, it gives a part number na01-34-111a?

all of the fast guys are running a MODDED later bump stop.

if it says you HAVE to have the na01 part UNMODDED, in the RULES

its ok to have a modded nc10 part?

the scca is dumb , a buddy bought a formula ford off of LMI wich was a frount runner at last years runoffs , he went to his first national with this car as the new owner and the tech guys from the scca wouldnt pass it. so he goes over to LMIs trailer grabs bob and brings him back to the tech tent to ask what the ****. the tech guy sees bob and says o this was your car and passes it . now tell me that aint fucked up.

I've always been told if it's not SPECIFICALLY ALLOWED in the rules, it is not allowed.

As opposed to if it's not banned it's legal.

yeah, we're looking at spec e30 right now. right now there isnt much "rules creep" but just looking at spec miata, you know there will be. and since our tech guy is lazy, its like we need to add some really easy to police rule.

i dunno how spec miata is in your neck of the woods, but here you need a full car prep AND a really good driver. spec e30, you dont yet.

Key word: YET. If SpecE30 grows, you'll be in the same boat.

The problem with Spec Miata is they've written the rules to allow all kinds of playing and blueprinting. The story goes they started Spec Miata because they thought they could improve on SpecRX7... well, from a rules standpoint they took about 20 steps back. It just so happens they used the same rules nationwide and theres butt-tons of Miatas available, so the class grew more than SpecRX7 ever did.

Depending on your location, look for an RX7 based spec series. You can't beat it in places where theres 10+ cars for competition and price, no matter how much anybody tries to argue to the contrary.

out here we dont get enough cars to do pro7, BUT since we're NASA, we have the performance touring, which takes all the cars and classes them, THEN any mods past a basic prep, adds points. so you can run anything you want, and they have a class for you.

i think we've fixed the spec e30 thing, we just need to do what the factory 5 guys do, and have all the ecu's and afm's, and just hand em out befor each race, randomly.

They should add another class to SPEED World Challenge.

AWD, 2.5L and under turbocharged sedan.

Spec tire size, spec turbo, E85 fuel.

Turbos handed out / swapped Saturday morning of the race weekend.

yeah i think an unlimited type class would be neat, just spec a minimum weight, spec tyre, and maybe an intake restrictor.

2400lbs, 205/45/15 and thats it.... so its not who cam make the most power, but who can use it best

It'd be nice, but even spec'ing a tire you're talking about a "who's got the most money" game. It'll never work. Look at how much money people are spending on true (or nearly true) spec series like NASCAR and F1... Millions, sometimes Billions. Why? Return on investment -- tons of TV time and attention.

Stuff like Trans-Am and old days F1 is awesome, and nobody will argue against that, but there's not the money available for a 30+ car field with those rulesets these days.

We can all dream, though.

Besides, 2.5L AWD? You're talking about a Spec Subaru series... those cars are pretty cool, but they're complete crapwagons. Who else even makes AWD "sporty" cars? Porsche? Mazdaspeed 6? Mitsubishi? Only one of those that spend any money on grassroots stuff is Mazda and they've got enough going on.

SPEED World Challenge Touring still has privateers at least, and we all know those cars are nowhere near stock.

Volvo (already entered GT)

Mazda

Audi

Mitsubishi

Subaru

and these are only the ones that have a manual transmission / turbo 4 / AWD setup already. Mixing and matching with Ford, Honda, GM and Chrysler chassis / drivetrain combos would give you a few more competitors as well.

I would like to hear the specific reason it would not pass. And what is spec 30? My driver retired for a year and then came back in with his own spec Miata. I think he retired from expensive racing in my GT-3 to less expensive racing. So now I have a GT-3 car I don't need. For sale Cheap. Some tech people are worth what they are getting paid. A letter should go to the chief of tech explaining this problem.

Once at Mid Ohio we pushed my Can Am Lola through tech, and it didn't pass, because all of the holes in the front end of the steering shaft didn't have bolts in them. The 5 holes in the stem in the steering box and 7 holes in the steering shaft so you could adjust the length of the shaft. The holes didn't have common spacing, so only one set at a time would line up.

I had a little melt down, and was hustled away by my crew. The driver got another tech to look at it and we passed OK.
